Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center's Online Review Report Card

Incompetent staff that takes forever to get to patients because they don't know how to properly manage a large influx of patients. They need to hire some Chick-fil-A Managers to come run things to cut the wait times way down.

This is an atrocious hospital. It’s not simply bad- the word “bad” isn’t enough to describe this place- it’s atrocious. This hospital and its staff seem more interested in the hospital’s accounting sheets and how much money they can make off of each patient rather than helping people. You will wait hours and hours to be seen- and the care is substandard. The bathrooms- even in the patients’ rooms are disgusting. This hospital is the main medical facility in the 3rd wealthiest county in the entire country- yes, the entire United States. How this is so in a state with some of the best hospitals in the world is beyond shocking and unbelievable. Do not go to this hospital under any circumstance- and this might come at the expense of not only your long-term health- but very potentially- your life.

This hospital is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. I was traveling (not from Maryland) and had to go to the Emergency Room for a heart related pain (having a history of heart issue). First let’s talk about the staff in the receptionist area. They were rude and nasty to anyone that had a question. Second let’s talk about making people wait for 10-13 hours. I wait 12 hours with my 2 children just for them to ask me to take a Covid test and I asked them how much longer they said they didn’t know. I use to work as a Phlebotomist in my state and the nurses that took blood at Howard Hospital and put my IV in need to be retrained. I was stuck 5 times the first IV was so painful she had to take it out. I have really easy veins to get it was unbelievable. Then 6-7 different people that came in after me were seen by the doctor before me and sent home. I’ve been to a few different hospitals in my life unfortunately and this hospital was literally the WORST. Someone coming from out of town I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone even more in an emergency.

Really bad customer service. Received the letter to call them for the test result. When i called them, all they said was one moment please and hang up.... Thanks alot...

I wish I could give a ZERO STAR rating because of this place is the Worst hospital. They renovated the ER and it’s worse then before a smaller ER waiting room and Never fixed the real issues. The staff is Hit or Miss when if comes to attentiveness and care. They take forever to get to anyone and when you ask for attention the nurses get irritated and sheew you away. I recommend going to St. Agnes or even make the trip to Baltimore for the real John Hopkins. Howard County General needs to do better they are riding on the John Hopkins name and is ruining it.

In the ER the EKG tech was very rude and abrasive. As I attempted to sit back in the chair she put her hand on my shoulder and I didn't want to be assisted so I grabbed her arm/hand to stop her, she immediately lashed out at me not to touch her. My intention was to stop her from assisting me, as I was in pain. Very unprofessional and she had her ID tag turned face down so I couldn't read her name. B. Thomas

I was shocked by my experience in the emergency room and even more shocked by their "fall risk" procedures once I was admitted. I came to the emergency room suffering with extreme abdominal pain at 11:05 PM. The emergency room was full. I was seen shortly for vitals and blood work (The bathrooms are horrible) and a cat scan. No further attention until 3:30 AM by a triage nurse. I sat upright in a chair until 10 AM when I couldn't take the pain anymore. I begged for pain killers as my back and stomach were burning. I finally got to see a doctor and they put me in a bed in the emergency treatment area until 10 PM that night and I never saw another doctor. At 10 PM after loudly complaining, they found a room for me in the hospital. That is when i experienced the "fall risk" procedure. I do not know who assesses the fall risk but if you try to get up to go to the bathroom or sit up, a large sounding alarm goes off. So you are a captive of the bed. BTW, the nurses and helpers all seem to care and I thank them.

Worst hospital ever. After you are being admitted into the hospital, they just left you to die. It takes couple hours for a nurse to show up when requested. It takes days for you to see a doctor. It takes days for you to get a blood transfusion when your life is on the line. You can't even get the essential medicines for hours when ur life is on the line. This is ridiculous. They don't care about people's lives here which is the worse You can get in a hospital. American hospital is just the worst.

I’m very disappointed with this hospital, Monday night I brought my father to the emergency room around 10:30/11 pm we had to wait 12 hours before they took him in the back, and then they didn’t even put him in a room they had him on a bed in the hallway from 11 am till a little after 10pm Tuesday night while there was a room right next to him that was open the whole day , they finally put him in a room almost 48 hours after being checked in horrendous

Zero Stars! This place is unprofessional and straight trash. They could learn a few things from Caroll Hospital Center in Caroll County Md. The technician that draws blood is nasty. The front desk... No hospitality whatsoever and no patience for patients. Do they not have a lead nurse for the ER desk? Everyone is on the phone texting or chatting. The guard at the front is lazy and practically laying in the chair.
