List of Joshua Sussal's Reviews
Dr Sussal great psychiatrist! Dr Sussal seemed very knowledgeable about mental health and I especially appreciate that he is a good listener.
A danger to vulnerable individuals. Avoid. e exhibited no understanding of the concept of consent. In this meeting NO did not mean NO, and thats a huge red flag for any prospective patient and the main reason I leave this review. I saw Joshua Sussal for an "independent" medical review in relation to my mental health short term disability claim. During the interview he repeatedly inferred that Transgender/NonBinary people deserve to be harassed for who they are. When I stated multiple times that I wasn't comfortable with this line of 'questioning' he then proceeded to harass (via sealioning) me with vague and speculative questions that had no bearing or relevance to the interview. I would not recommend this individual for those who are LGBTQ, POC, or member of any other marginalized group or those who have past consent and/or harassment related traumas.
Dr Sussal should have his license revoked. He dismisses patient concerns, and writes FALSE and inaccurate information. I am STRONGLY considering filing legal action against this man. I am still taken aback by the gross negligence and how he twisted my words for his gain. He is very unprofessional and lacks basic ethics. If I were you, I'd RUN
I have been referring my patients to Dr. Sussal and sending my own family to Dr. Sussal for over 10 years. He is direct, honest, open and extremely bright with a keen sense of his patients needs. Even through the pandemic , he has come into his offices to help some of my referrals obtain care via arranging for emergency services to assure they did not have to go to the ER , but could be admitted. As a provider, there is a deep appreciation for the time, energy, dedication and professionalism Dr. Sussal displays. If you can get an appointment, you will be well taken care of and fortunate as he is affordable as well.
With all the previous providers I had for my child, no one was able to see that they were suffering with learning problems which we later found out was due to a genetic disease my family has. This was found after Dr. Sussal got my child tested and then had myself and their father tested . My child felt for the first time validated and now we have to change somethings to help them, but my child no longer feels it is their fault.
Knowledgeable, respectful, kind and understood my situation while helping me to understand my situation.
A great doc and person who truly cares abs very knowledgeable.
I have been under Dr. Sussal's care for six years now. He has helped me through my many ups and downs. He adjusts scheduling times according to what my needs have been. I've felt welcome to ask for more time when I needed it. He's met with me in person most of the time, but we have also talked over the phone, through email, and now doing tele-health video. He set me up with a perfect psychologist. I have been able to reduce my medications and handle situations with more confidence. I will continue to recommend him.
Dr. Sussal communicates incredibly will and is prompt with his responses especially during this time (4/2020). Many thanks.
I have review Joshua Sussal Md in different places but just today I found this place and I feel I should review him here too. Dr. Sussal was reported by me to the Maryland Board of Physicians. The reason was that my numerous phone numbers to request appointments and refills were not answered. I went to the Physicians' Code of Ethics and did some research. This unprofessional, uncaring doctor has been doing what it is called abandonment of patients. It is prohibited by the Code of Ethics and there is a procedure to be followed (which obviously he did not do it with me and it looks like with other people because I have read other patients, reviews in other sites (not answering phone calls). The procedure he needs to follow is the following: if doctor does not want to work with a patient for any reason he/she should notify the patient AND refer the patient to another doctor. This is so important with a psychiatrist doctor (patients need referrals and medications). It infuriates that something like this has happened with some of us with this doctor. I was under the care of Todd Christianssen in their office in Greenbelt; then I was transferred to this Sussal in Frederick and then everything went down the drain. Another observation: the way he approaches patients (at least me). He asked me questions I have never heard from a psychiatrist before, and I have had quite a few ( Have you been incarcerated? What is your family background? What did your parents used to do for a living, were they teachers?). It gave the impression that he was insensitive, too much matter of factly. I certainly hope that one of the recommendations he received from the Maryland Board of Physicians was to take some cultural sensitivity training (I am a Black Puerto Rican woman). I do not know if this approach is related to the fact that he specializes in child and adolescent psychiatrist and he feels that is the way it should be done, but obviously it did not work with an adult like me, and I have read other reviews of this doctor's be in your face, no sense approach ). One of the things I asked was if they were properly qualified to deal with adults and not just children and adolescents; they told me that they were very capable to deal with adults. Do adults require another approach? If so he should stick to their specialty (children and adolescents). Anyway, there is no excuse for not answering their mental health patients' phone calls. If he has a lousy staff he needs to dealt with that too; ultimately it is his responsibility. This is certainly patient abandonment and if other people have the same problem with this psychiatrist they should do what I did: report him to the Maryland Board of Physicians.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
