List of Marc R Shepard's Reviews
Telemed appointment-he seemed irritated from the beginning of the call-after explaining issue (earache/swollen lymph nodes)- he continued to say "I'm confused, I'm confused" as if what I stated was just untrue/impossible-just seemed uncaring/unprofessional!
Always had good care from Dr. Shepard highly recommended.
I liked the doctor, but he was only there 2-3 days a week. As a result, it was very difficult to get an appointment with him in a timely manner. I just got a notice that he is retiring at the end of 2019, so no point in bothering with him anyway now.My real problem with the clinic is with the admin staff. The receptionist is rude. I stood in front of her for 10 minutes before she even greeted me for my appointment. She then pointed to the chairs and told me to sit. I waited 20 minutes past my appointment time before called in, then 10 more minutes in the clinical room before the nurse came in, and then 15 more minutes after she left before the doctor came. When I tried to get a follow up appointment, they never returned my calls and never responded to my emails. When my pharmacy tried to renew my prescription, they said I had to come in for a follow up. I tried to get another appointment and they told me the doctor wasn't available for weeks later.I decided to try a different clinic as a result. They are very conveniently located for me, but otherwise an unpleasant place to visit.
My BIL was hospitalized under his care. He was visiting from out of state with a complicated health history. Dr Marc was courteous, involved the family in the treatment plan, was available when paged . Cooperative in discharge planning.
Today I called to have my prescription set up to be ready at CVS pharmacy by me and I have to check 4 times with the doctors office if the prescription is ready. The ladies answering the phones keep on transferring me and last call transferred was never answered and the call got disconnected . The request to change pharmacy was done before lunch and it's already 4:16 pm and I'm still on the phone trying to get this done . Called CVS and it's 4:17 am and still no prescription . This was my first day as a patient - I am not disappointed by the doctor but his staff at the Hyattsville office needs to learn about customer patient service . This infuriated me because it tells me that this is what I'm going to expect from this office all the time - poor patient customer service
I have managed primary care physicians' offices, and am very familiar with essential best practices for an office visit. My single experience with Dr. Shepard was like an instructional video parody, exemplifying how NOT to treat a patient. I was at Dr. Shepard's office for a new patient consult and full physical, but he only asked me a total of three questions, almost immediately cut me off to interject his (incorrect) assumptions/conclusions rather than let me answer the questions he asked, and the only time he actually came within a foot of me was to listen to my heart and lungs - which he only did from the front. He checked my eyes and ears from so far away (about arm's length) that I had to stifle a laugh of surprise. His portion of the physical, including him typing his notes, lasted less than ten minutes. The only time Dr. Shepard made more than fleeting eye contact was when he was dismissing my response to an unfounded assumption he'd made about my health history. For that, he stared directly at me to inform me of how long he'd been a doctor, how many patients he'd seen, and that he was on some sort of state pharmacology board... that last item not even being relevant to the topic. Never before in my life have I been to a doctor who spent my new-patient appointment telling me all about myself (and himself) with virtually no input from me! When Dr. Shepard was finished with his "exam," he abruptly left the room without saying any form of goodbye. After a several minutes, I got dressed and went into the hall to flag down a nurse, to find out if I was done or if I was having blood work. The nurse applogized and said she'd had no idea the doctor had left my room. I asked her if Dr. Shepard was unusually busy that morning, and she said his schedule was actually very light. I visually confirmed this as I was leaving - only one patient room door closed and only one patient in the waiting room. ???From my encounter, I'd summarize Dr. Shepard as the very embodiment of the arrogant, lazy older doctor stereotype, not the least bit concerned with patient experience. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
is this the correct phone number? i cant seem to reach anyone via this listed number...?
I have found Dr. Shepard to be a very intelligent, informed, and concerned physician. He has been thorough in his exams, and has been clear in his explainations. He has been patient in listening to my input and responsive to my needs, including financial concerns. His nurses and staff have always been polite and attentive to me.
Do you think it's normal for a doctor to start a physical examination or move articles of your clothing without asking your permission first? I certainly don't. If you agree, you should probably avoid Dr. Shepard. In addition to doing this to me, he also interrupted everything I said, including my responses to questions he asked, and was very condescending. His staff was the rudest I have ever come across in a doctor's office. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a doctor.
Worst Dr. Ever. If I could leave less than one star I would - is way out of his league - he tries to treat mental illness when he has zero background- my son ended up in the hospital for a week due to his incompetence. Would never return my calls when I tried to tell the office that something was terribly wrong & I called & called. Dr Shepard should retire before he causes more harm. Does not listen does not care -

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
