List of Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Center's Reviews
My doctor pick this surgery center for my out patient surgery. He scheduled the surgery for 5 hours and I paid the surgery center directly. I was advised during check-in that if the surgery lasted more than 5 hours, I would be billed for the additional hours. The cost for using the surgery centers' operating room for 5 hours was 2,500.00 dollars so I assumed a billing rate of 500.00 per hour and agreed to pay for any additional time required. Well the surgery took 7 hours and the Surgery Center billed me 2,000.00 for the two additional hours. That rate comes to 1,000.00 per hour. I requested information on why the difference in billing rates on 4 different occasional and the Surgery Center refused to answer my questions. I just want to warn any one using this Surgery Center, makes sure you know the total amount you will have to pay the Surgery Center in advance because afterward they can bill you any amount they want . Let the buy beware, for warned is for armed.

The staff here is awesome. Things usually run smooth here. I recommend coming here for your medical needs.
Johns Hopkins has the best spinal neurosurgery department in the country, in my humble opinion. If you need life saving neurosurgery, there are no better hands to be in. I highly recommend Dr. Gokaslan. He is an amazing doctor.
I love Hopkins, but full disclosure: I also work here. I've never had long waits but I know they do occur regularly. The care and service has always been impeccable and everyone is happy and friendly. The facilities are immaculate. Of course the care is wonderful, but it's Hopkins so you probably expected that already. My only complaint is billing. Billing here is absolutely overwhelming in terms of paperwork. For each visit I get multiple bills (one from provider and one from facilities or something along those lines). Then they resend the bill after some time. I have gotten to the point where I ignore what comes in the mail and just call in from time to time. If you want food, skip the cafe on the first floor and definitely the cafeteria on 2 and head to Balducci's in Zayed. It's a 5 minute walk and you get great food rather than typical hospital food.
I love this hospital. The people are very kind and very helpful. The cafeteria is very overpriced but it is very good food. You can tell the hospital cares about his patients and those who are not thinking there is only diet soda to drink and water and healthy too. There is no junk food to eat. I was treated very well that's facilities.
I have been a patient here for 10 months. It's so nice not to have to travel downtown to the main hospital. I can see my specialist, have bloodwork, scan MRI, and/or get an X-ray. You do have to travel downtown Baltimore for any nuclear scans though. I know know...it's a wait. It's annoying, however once you get back with your Doctor, they really give you full attention. Keep in mind, sometimes the reason they are running behind, is because they are studying your file and coming up with a plan before they even talk to you. That's what happens in my case. I may wait, however my Doctor comes in the room with a photographic memory of my medical history. The Hopkins level of intelligence can not be matched. If you can ignore the receptionist (which can be a little unfriendly) ...I think everything else is an A plus. Free parking!
It's probably not fair to give this one star just because of one department in the building, but they are so bad that I have to. I have been to the Adult Clinic on the 7th floor several times. This is a clinic manned mostly by residents and it shows. I made one of the residents my "Primary Care Provider" and he is completely non-responsive because he is too concerned about finishing his residency and moving to another hospital. They NEVER have responded to my pharmacy's refill requests (probably at least a dozen occasions). I have to contact them myself at least once a month to get them to do it. Sometimes they fail in their attempts because some of the Drs don't know how to properly use their software, and sometimes because they don't know how to properly phone in prescriptions for controlled substances. I then have to contact them and they try again. It seems the only way I get anything out of them is through the help of the secretary; she seems to be the only one who knows how to do anything in this clinic. They don't completely answer my questions. They tell me incorrect medical information. They have ordered the incorrect blood tests on multiple occasions. They make referrals to other departments who are not even taking new patients. My list of current medications is never up to date even though I go through my current medications with the nurse every single visit. They can't really seem to handle any problem much more complicated than high blood pressure and cholesterol. I have chronic pain and don't really know how to handle it or even who they should refer me to. I basically just have used them to prescribe the medications I have requested because the US gov't says I have to. To be fair, most of them at least try to be compassionate and will listen to me talk. That's the best I can say about them. Most recently I have made a prescription refill request through their web app (MyChart), it was APPROVED, they failed to fax it in, I had the secretary fax it in, AND THEN my pharmacy called me to inform me they ACTUALLY denied my refill request. The reason given was they want to change my dose, but they never sent in a new dose and they never informed me of this. So here I am sitting almost empty on this medication which CAN NOT be abruptly stopped (I have missed a day's doses before and the results are NOT fun).
Flew in from Chicago to see the "specialist." Left after two hours of waiting, no updates, nothing. Flew home. How could I possibly do business with a practice that is run this way!
BEST doctors in the country. Well worth the drive from DC to see the very best. I've never had a bad experience, the doctors, nurses, support staff- everyone has always been polite, professional and friendly. I've never had a problem with insurance or billing and their online billing system makes paying bills quick and easy. Also the myChart patient portal makes accessing your lab results, communicating with your doctors and scheduling appointments a breeze! Highly recommended!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
