I have tried twice over the past 2 years to set up a tour and find out more info. Once by phone and last week via the website form. Nether time have I received any response. Why list contact info if you are not going to respond to inquiries?
My Grandma has been a resident in the Assisted living for the past year. The nursing staff are always helpful and compassionate. The activities even through COVID had been engaging. One of the best places for your loved ones!
One of my closest friends was a resident at Lorian for long term care. Visting him was always a blessing, and the staff was professional and always helpful.
I use to work here and I love this place
Dad was there for Rehab after a fall at home, then he went to the assisted living there. It was very clean and everyone was so friendly and genuine, from Chuck in admissions to Alvin the bus driver. I would highly recommend.
What a wonderful place! Our church is very active in visiting local seniors in nursing homes and assisted livings, and we always get a warm welcome and appreciation from the staff and residents. We always look forward to going back again.
My elderly mother was in Lorien Mt Airy skilled nursing and rehab for 30 days. She died the day she was to be released. My mother was able to walk with a walker when admitted after having a blocked colon, which was alleviated while at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Staff at Lorien would not permit her to use a walker, and she was kept sitting in a wheelchair or in bed. Briefly, her level of warfarin was kept consistently below an INR of 2.0 (lower than the lowest point where the INR is supposed to be). Warfarin is ineffective at the dosage she was given. She was on a combo of diuretics and a beta blocker for high blood pressure before entering Lorien. Her diuretic was taken away, Later, after her feet were balloon-sized, diuretics were given to her repeatedly at 8 PM, so she had to urinate all night long. Patients are not pottied at night; they are given adult diapers but are not changed when soiled. Needless to say, my experience with Lorien was absolutely hideous. Both yeast and fungal infections are rampant there. Lorien has an extremely high death rate compared with other similar institutions in Maryland. I gave Lorien a "1" rating, but that should be a -100.
My mother resided at Lorien for 15 years but has just passed. She and began living independently there and then began moving to more dependent care. She lived there with dementia for a long time. I know when a loved one has dementia they are not able to comment on the care they are getting. So it is important they are in a facility that has high standards of care and are clean and have staff that are attentive and caring. Well this was very true of Lorien. My mother used to sit in a lazy boy chair during the day and also sleep in it at night. When able she would use a walker or be wheeled to the dining room for most meals. Then eventually ate more in her room. Throughout the whole time she was living there she never got a rash or bedsore and she was incontinent. She also looked up at her caregivers with loving admiration and thanked them when she was able to say how much she appreciated all that they did for her. I never heard a impatient tone or a raised voice when the staff spoke to my mother or any other residents there. If there were any medical concerns the family would be notified immediately and were informed of the actions taken to make her more comfortable. Thanks you Lorien for all you have done for our mother and our family!!! We will never forget the loving care you provided for our mother.
Although my father wasn't at Lorien for long, our experience was a good one.The staff did all they could for him and that he wanted to do, and were very helpful when the time came to transition to a hospice type of situation. From the administration to physical therapy to social service, I felt that they each were concerned for decisions we needed to make and helped us all along the way.Thank you staff of Lorien.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
