Calvert Health Medical Center's Online Review Report Card

They left my daughter profusely bleeding after a ruptured tonsil surgery for 2 hours, they wouldn't even transport her to the proper hospital I had to drive her myself and risk my entire families life to drive her as fast as I could to a REAL ER. Thank God for AA Medical Center where a real medical staff was waiting very upset with how the situation was handled. Please tell me why so much money has been spent changing the look of the hospital but it's still just as bad as it was in the 90's. When your local hospital is know as the "Place where people come to die" you might want to think about changing somethings. I've been in Calvert County for 30+ years and I fear any emergency due to the way this hospital is operated. Praying for my daughters life as we speak...

All of my experience with this hosp has been great. Whether as a patient or family member waiting for a patient  never had anything to complain about. The staff is friendly and supportive and helpful. I've even had staff walk up to me as I waited in a hallway and ask if I was being helped. I spent three days there a year ago and can't say enough about the care I received.

This place gets 0 stars. I will drive out of the county from now on. I went to the ER around 3:30pm on a Saturday with severe abdominal pain. Urgent care sent me over when my urine came back clear. I was told I needed to give another urine sample and they also did blood work. Meanwhile I was given something to ease the pain, which helped. Dr. Fuller came in to tell me that blood and urine looked good so we would need a CT Scan. After an hour or so waiting for someone to come take me for that, I had that done and went back to wait. We waited about another hour and again, Dr. Fuller came in and said the CT was clear. Just a very tiny kidney stone hanging out which isn't the cause. So now he wants to take me for an Ultrasound to see if I have an ovarian torsion. They had just let me go to the bathroom so now I had to get another bag of saline and wait another hour until my bladder was full. I also needed to get some morphine for the pain because I was maxed out on what they had already given me and my pain was coming back.When I finally went back for the ultrasound, it was around 9:00pm. The tech was very nice. She asked me if anyone had ever mentioned fibroids to me, which I said no because I had never heard of them. I didn't ask her anything about it because 1, I know she really can't answer the questions I would have and 2, I expected that if she asked me about it, that meant she found something and the doctor would inform me when he came to tell me the results. I went back to the room to again wait. Around 11:00pm we still hadn't seen the doctor. Also around this time, an ambulance was arriving from an accident. At this point my morphine was also wearing off fast and I was doubling over in pain again. My husband had to go and ask when the doctor was going to be in and see if I could get something for my pain. The nurse said I couldn't have anything else. (This was a new nurse. The nurse from the afternoon was extremely nice). At this point the doctor finally comes in, and as I am crying in pain, he says my ultrasound looks good and that because my urine was a little cloudy, he said I had a bladder infection. How can that be if 8 hours earlier the urine was clear? It would have shown then, but instead, I was given a bunch of expensive tests that I now owe $1000.00 for after my insurance paid for their part. I was in so much pain that I forgot to ask about the fibroid that the tech mentioned. I was sent home around midnight with a couple of Percocet and a prescription for the "bladder infection". I was still in pain the next few days. I went  and picked up my ER report that Monday and not only did my urine and blood work all say CLEAR, but my ultrasound report noted the fibroid and also an ovarian cyst. I should have been seen by a gynecologist on call, but I guess they don't do that here. I also should have been informed of the findings from the ultrasound but since it wasn't what he was looking for, then I guess that was unimportant to tell me. I am a 38 year old and you have no idea of my gynecological history, nor did he ask. I believe I was misdiagnosed because he didn't know what was wrong with me and chalked it up to the fact that my ultrasound said my bladder was distended. Um, of course it was, it was full! So I was given a bunch of expensive tests for no reason. But at least I found out myself that I have some issues going on that he didn't bother to tell me. I am considering speaking to a lawyer because this was negligence and malpractice. I have called and complained to the hospital which is a waste of time. The contact doctor on the complaint follow up letter, Dr. Christiansen, never calls back and is never working no matter what day or time you call. I have called several times and left several messages with several different people. This place is all about the $$$$$$ and doesn't care about the patients at all.

To add to my dismay of this hospital they are reluctant to give us his medical records for Aflac and another insurance company to collect benefits. I had to threaten them with the HIPPA law stating it's mandatory. Horrible customer services again from ppl who feel empowered and don't want to work with you :0(

Some of the staff is great but some are pure trash. My husband was having heart problems so they immediately transferred him to a room. My son daughter and I were told we could stay but if more patients came in we all couldn't stay. All is good until the Last night of his stay (he was being transferred to a hospital that deals with cardiac issues next morning) and the 2 nurses on midnight staff that were in charge were TRASH!!! First of all my son was so worried he had a seizure the morning after my husband arrived. He had to be taken to the ER all day and when he was finally released he wanted to be with his dad so we went back to the 2nd floor and waited. No one said anything all the nurses were sympathetic and understanding until MIDNIGHT nurses come in. The first one got upset saying my son had to get up because housekeeping had to clean the bed for the next patient and only 1 person was allowedTo stay. The 2nd trash nurse came in talking $hit saying I had to leave because a man was coming to room with my husband and women were not allowed What kind of crap? The The awful nurse tells my husband when he is taken by ambulance to Adventist hospital in the morning he will have to wait all day to have surgery. What the heck? My husband is on the verge of a heart attack his chest is tight and hurting and this evil witch is telling him this?  I  wanted to curse those 2 nasty racist nurses out but I kept it cool and got my son and left. My husband called me at 2am telling meHe was having chest pains and the nursesTook a long time to come give him nitroglycerin. The hospital would have 5 stars if it wasn't for the 2 nasty racist nurses that chose their personal feelings on how to treat patients and their family's but I simply have lost all respect. I will NEVER return we will go to Anne Arundel if anything ever happens: Note. They can't deal with Heart issues or Children. My husband had to be transferred to Adventist and My son was transferred to Childrens. This is not a real hospital it's an expensive clinic and it was half empty on the 2nd floor. My husband NEVER got that roommate that I was kicked out because of. I hope those 2 nasty nurses meet with Karma and management sees an overhaul on the STAFF needs to be done instead of cosmetics on the outside

Brought mother in law here to the ED having Severe stomach pains there were three people in the waiting room area and an ambulance was leaving and another just arrived. We sat for almost 2 hours before they took her back then another hour before they even gave her something fo pain. They gave her two bottles of liquid to drink before having a CT scan told her she had 15 min to finish the first then 45 for the second one then they would be back in about an hour to hour 20 min to take her for a scan. A doctor finally came in the talk to her about her problem they came took her for the scan 10 min they were back then waited for the results the dr came in said they could find anything even the blood work came back good. Sent her home at 4 am with a prescription for antacids. The next morning the hospital calls around 10:30 saying she need to come back the scan was read wrong.   First off if the scan was read wrong the person should not be doing this job unsupervised. And this place is supposed to be getting better???No wonder they have to fly out everyone they can't get anything rite.

I am not sure how this hospital only has one review on here. They are probably having them deleted. I will say this hospital is under new management and they have horrible customer service and surely do not care about their patients. I can only say that for the labor and deliver portion. As far as the E.R. I have never in my life waited only 30 minutes in their E.R. Every time I have visited the E.R. Whether it was for myself or my children, the wait is hours long no matter what your issue is. My main issue is with Labor and Delivery. If you are contemplating having your baby here please stay far away!! Every since this whole Calvert Hospital System turned to "Calvert Health" my experience with the OBGYN's as well as the hospital's labor and delivery staff has been horrible! When I was 34 weeks pregnant I started having contractions and had to visit the hospital. They sent me to L&D and when I got back there they hooked me to the monitors to track my contractions and baby's heart rate.. they then checked my cervix and I was not dilated. Although they had seen I was having contractions regularly on the monitors, they decided the best course of action to take next was to give me shots of Turb (please look this up it is not good at all for the mother or baby). They did not give me an IV at all while I was there to see if I was dehydrated nor did they run any other tests before the shot was given or after. A doctor also never came in to explain to me what they were doing and why they were doing so. I had one rude nurse who kept making negative comments on why I should not be having a 4th c section when clearly I was already 8 months pregnant and had no other choice! Those comments could have been kept to herself. She kept reiterating the fact that my uterus would rupture since I was having a 4th c section and was just very rude and made me feel so nervous, scared and uncomfortable. Once the first dose of turb shot was given, I ended up doing research on the shot and deemed it was not only unnecessary, but also not the safest and not guaranteed effective. When the nurse came in to give me another shot I declined and explained why. She then got smart and asked me if I was a doctor and when I told her i felt my research was sufficient especially since they hadnt tried any other methods to stop the contractions (Giving an IV should have been the first). She then stated "Well i'd Hate to see your uterus rupture or you come in later and we have to fly your baby to another hospital." That statement was uncalled for! She got upset rushed out the room and discharged me still having contractions without any further test or intervention methods. The whole time I was there my doctor (Mahata) never came in to explain to me what was going on and why they were taking the steps they took. After that experience I left the whole practice all together and decided to find a doctor elsewhere at 34 weeks. That's how detrimental the experience was. I ended up going to Holy Cross Hospital the next day with contractions and the first thing they did after they hooked me to the monitor was put me on IV fluid. They never suggested any type of turb shot. They also kept me two nights, completed sonograms, kept me on fluids, checked my cervix more than once to make sure the contractions were not dilating me at all. They also made no comments about a 4th c section and when I asked about it they said they see people with 4th and 5th c sections all the time and they brushed it off as if it were nothing abnormal. After two days of IV fluids my contractions went away, all my tests were negative, my official sonogram the hospital gave me was perfectly fine, and I was free to go home. I am now 37 weeks and have been fine since. I have transferred my care to Doctor Simmons and Hackney in Silver Spring and will be delivering at Holy Cross with knowledgeable/wonderful doctors. Calvert is not equipped to handle anything other than a perfect birth. Please stay away if you can!

We thought we were miscarrying our first child that we have waiting 7 years for. We rushed to the ER. The waiting room was quite busy but we were seen within 30 minutes. The nurses were very sympathetic and kind. The ultrasound tech had also undergone IVF and had such a calming way about her and calmed me down. We left with a diagnosis of subchorianic hemorrhage and 2 1/2 weeks later we are still pregnant and the baby is growing strong. We were treated with respect and courtesy at this ER. I believe you are treated with the same respect you give to others. When I see so many negative things that people say I have to wonder how they treated the ones who treated them. I recommend this ER to anyone needing urgent care.
