MIchael Chait's Online Review Report Card

Our appointments were moved, I was not updated or notified. No phone call or email updates were sent to the contact information I put down. The update was given to the other person(s) in my party. This person is very busy and forgot to inform me (an adult with my own avenues for correspondence) about the appointment change. We were rushed through the process and they tried to upsale me on lenses/frames. The young Hispanic woman at the front desk was very "over" her job. She did not appear as if she wanted to be at work at all. Her tone was very melancholy and it made me feel as if I shouldn't have been bothering her with my presence. Our appointments were made online and someone within the facility managed to overbook Dr.Chait. My younger brother and I were to be seen (simultaneously?) at 10AM. We arrived at 9:45AM and completed intake. The young Hispanic woman did "pre-testing" to gather more information before we saw the optometrist. I was seen by the Doctor first. Dr.Chait began asking me very personal questions that did not pertain to the eye exam. This is a psychological used to pick the patients brain to determine if they're more likely to be sold on lenses/frames. He asked what kind of work I did, he asked if I was in school, he asked where I go to school, and he asked what I was going to major in. Knowing my highest level of education and my current field of work is not necessary to determine my electronic screen time or the amount of strain put on my eyes. I prefaced my eye concerns and my day-to-day tasks when Dr.Chait initially asked what brought me in. I covered every base to inform him of what could potentially lead to my eye concerns and what potentially may perpetuate any issues. This included my screen time, which is upwards of 10 hours a day. His additional questions felt like probing in on my personal life. This made me uncomfortable and I began to lie as the questions persisted. As I mentioned, this is a tactic to disect a patient and determine if you can sell them more than what they came in for. I do not use insurance, I was paying out of pocket. Chait and his staff had preconceived notions that a young black girl couldn't possibly pay for her own eye exam and frames out of pocket. I came in and asked for the bare minimum because I know what I'm spending. For those wondering, this is why factors such as ethnicity are on your intake and insurance forms. Patients utilizing insurance can be taken for a joy-ride because Doctor's set their own prices when they bill insurance. That means: •You're billed for the appointment scheduling •You're billed for the "pre-test" •You're billed for having the Doctor talk to you •You're billed for every piece of equipment used •You're billed for lenses •You're billed for frames You're even billed for the paper used to print intake forms. (Yes, if a Doctor's office puts it on the invoice, there's a chance Insurance will even pay for you using their toilet.) While checking out, there was an Asian female employee at a desk that I approached on accident. The Asian woman gave me a glare from the corner of her eye, as if I was the absolute most disgusting thing she had ever had the misfortune to encounter. The young Hispanic woman redirected me to the correct desk to a young Hispanic gentleman who was very stand off-ish. He completed the check out and very passive aggressive about it. None of this even covers the injustice done to my younger brother. The staff decided to quickly process me through and charge me the $200+ for my visit, rather than taking the small child who needed the exam. They assumed the child would be too much hassle and take too long. Rather than losing the money from the overbooked appointments after us, they bamboozled me and ditched my brother entirely. This now leaves us with a small child in need of lenses, with no prescription to fill them. TL;DR, The staff need retraining.

From the minute you step in you feel the professional yet friendly atmosphere. Thank you Hanaa G. (General Manager) for a well trained staff. Everyone knows their role and they do it timely and with a smile, and on top of all that, a great optometrist called, Dr. Chait. My husband and I live in Virginia but we drive all the way for a great experience of eye care. Again, thank you!!

I've been going to Dr. Chiat for years. Always easy to get an appointment and always happy with my eye exam. No complaints. Good place.
