List of The Retina Group Of Washington's Reviews
The doctors and techs are great but the office and billing are totally unresponsive. They made a fairly big mistake on my bill due to their own disorganization and I have been trying for 3 months to get someone who can correct it. No one answers the billing phone line. Very frustrating! Won’t go back because of the hassle.
Doctors are good but the wait is horrendous. They way over schedule patients. Every time I come, I end up spending three hours here.
I had a 2:15 pm appointment with Dr. Lai. So did someone else. At 2:45 pm I asked how much longer my wait would be. I was told there were eight patients ahead of me and that it would be another hour at least. I left.
Having to be referred to this type of specialist is not fun. However, every medical professional who worked with me was indeed professional, explaining everything - what they were going to do, how it would go, and how I may react. They kept me very informed and thus were comforting. They conducted a very thorough exam, reacting seriously to symptoms I thought may be not be that serious. I appreciate that as well as the explanation of my interim diagnosis. The missing star? In order to interact with medical staff, one must navigate the office staff, who are the exact opposite of the medical personnel. They are curt, unfriendly, and demanding. They were quite unpleasant. Checkout was interminable, the woman yelling at me when my face happened to drift outside the plexiglass safety shield. When I handed my driver's license to them, they demanded I slip it beneath their little plastic barrier. The last time I checked, the president said the pandemic is over. Well, here at the Retina Center, it's still 2020. As I mentioned in a previous review, a physician's office staff is the physician's face. This is not a pretty face on this practice.
I would avoid this business due to the ineptitude and dishonesty of the billing department. The culture seems to be one of rudeness, as well.
I have been seeing Dr Reilly for a rare eye condition for several years and I could not be happier with the care that I have received from her and this practice. She absolutely saved the vision in my left eye. Dr Reilly is both a fantastic doctor. She always takes time to talk with me during our appointments. I have seen reviews complaining about the wait time. I have not experienced any long waits at this practice but I try to make sure that I am there early in the morning. Part of the exceptional care that I have received there is a lack of hurry. I receive ocular injections which are as unpleasant as they sound. Dr Reilly takes time with her patients and I have never felt like anyone there was rushed. I would recommend her and this practice to anyone who needs a retinal specialist.
These folks are horrible. Terrible and extremely unprofessional staff. Missed giving my mom a required shot for her macular degeneration which led to extreme decrease in her vision. Trying to even get her medical records to take her somewhere else has been a nightmare. Their "medical records line" doesn't have a voicemail or a live person, staff tells you to "fill out these forms" medical records will be in touch. They are not. Show up at their office in person in Greenbelt seems to be the only way to get a copy of these records. Horrible, unbelievable incompetence and medical malpractice. Avoid at all costs.
Smart/Thoughtful Professionals. My most recent visit yesterday (12/16/22). I realized I have not posted a review. This is now my review. As the name suggests The Retina Group of Washington (locations in DC, MD & VA), specializes in the care/study of the "Retina" of the eye. My review is for the Rockville location, just behind busy Rockville Pike nearest Metro Station "Rockville." Typically it's been my experience a staffer will call your name in the waiting area & escort you to an exam room for a series of Q/A & Eye Exams. Then to another exam room to meet your dr. This was my experience yesterday. Referred by my primary eye dr. I've been here annually for several years seeing Dr. Reiley. She/staff are thoughtful professionals. I'll admit sometimes; the wait times can be longer than expected up 45 mins. beyond your scheduled appointment time. Provided you arrived on time. The Frontdesk staff now inform patients upon arrival of wait time delays accordingly. As they did yesterday to me. Time moved quickly & my appointment was completed according. I was satisfied. The Rockville location was renovated in 2018. See Photos.
The Chevy Chase location is a zoo. Long waits, rude front desk personnel and felt like I was bothering them just being there. Never again.
It's a busy practice because the doctors are amazing. If there's a wait time, it's not personal. Some patients take longer than others possibly because they may be experiencing complicated eye issues, like me. I was diagnosed with PICS. It's rare, but so is finding a great Uveitis doctor that can treat it. Thank God, I'm under Dr Brian Do's care and recovering from a flare. Also several years ago, I was deemed legally blind but another at RGW, Dr. Michael Lai saved my eye sight and I shall eternally be grateful. Regarding the office reception, I received excellent attention from both Janelle Haskin and LaTonya Ward. My experience as a new patient was swift, efficient, and went without a hitch. It was pretty impressive, enough to take my time to write this review. My check-out was just the same AND was I was seen by a second doctor in the practice on the same day, thanks to their kind and diligent coordination with another office at RGW. Perhaps, and unless you're in customer service, it may be difficult for you to understand why some wait times may be long, or why some attitudes are perceived negatively, but if everybody did their part, like checking in early, and registering in advance, and having your ID's ready, and respectfully speaking to the front office team, then more positive experiences would be possible. Be patient, because that's what we are when we are seeing the doctors! Go for the care you need because your eyes are important and great care is what you'll get from Retina Group of Washington.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
