List of Mark L. Bowen's Reviews
Excellent physician.
I was an overweight mom playing basketball with my middle school students. I tore my acl coming to a complete stop while pivoting on my right foot. Ouch! Fast forward...0Dr. Mark Bowen did a fantastic job on my knee. He was honest, didn't push meds on me, and his bedside manner was heartfelt. I waited about five years to leave this review because I wanted to wait and see if my knee would really heal without any pain, or restrictions. Well, I'm happy to say that I feel great. An added bonus was that the scar is barely noticeable. In fact, if I didn't tell you about it, you'd never notice it. Thank you, Dr. Bowen.
From my first consultation with Dr.Bowen I felt confident in my surgery. He made the right call with repairing with my hamstring. He is very nice and patient. I really would recommend him to anyone.
I went to Dr. Mark Bowen for a knee replacement in 1990. Then for another knee replacement five years later. When I went up rehabilitation several other people were recovering. Several had a problem of infections or worse. I never had even a small problem. This is nearly 15-20 years later. My knees work as well as they did when I was 16. At 83 years now I am grateful that he did my surgeries.
He laughed at me when I voiced my concern for a torn acl. Very bad experience. Maybe he was having a bad day.
I highly recommend Dr. Bowen. He repaired my right rotator cuff from a ski injury and removed a bone spur from 25 years of playing tennis and paddle that did not show up on the MRI. He repaired my rotator and removed my bone spur. Today I am completely pain free and have full extension of my right arm. My shoulder is better than ever with no visible scar. I am so pleased with the results!
Extremely competent surgeon. I had full faith and trust in his skills and ability and he did an amazing job for me. I would recommend him without hesitation.
Mark Bowen has outstanding surgical skills. The real problem is working with this medical office. From making the appointment, to checking in at the front desk, it took a ridiculous amount of time. The people who work those functions are either brand new or very poorly trained. What these docs don't seem to "get" is that they are running a customer service business and they need to pay attention to the way patients are treated from the moment they call for an appointment. When I complained to the office manager about the misinformation I was given about their access to NW med records and the lengthy time to check in, she could not have been more condescending and she acted like I was being unreasonable, though they had wasted my time because I was given incorrect information from the "call center". Accountability is nonexistent in this office. Last but not least, if the technology doesn't work, don't use it. They have IPAD's to take medical history but apparently they are known to 'freeze up' yet they let their patients continue to struggle with a program that doesn't work. The attitude from their so called 'practice manager' was absurd from saything "that's the way it is" and "we have no control", etc. It would have been funny if it wasn't so unconscionable to treat people in pain with such lack of respect for their time or the quality of the experience. If she isn't able to make positive changes in her "little office" why do they even bother to have a practice manager on site? As medicine grows more competitive more people will vote with their feet and since there are many excellent surgeons in Chicago, they should consider the large number of neg reviews I see on Vitals, healthgrades and here that are related to how the practice is managed and not the docs themselves......
Dr. Bowen did a great job with both my rotator cuff surgeries. He is knowledgeable, kind and explained all my options. I had a faster recovery because he is such a great surgeon.
Right ACL, MCL and meniscus in 2013. I was back to shift as a firefighter in 6 months with no restrictions. Playing hockey, working out and riding my bike. Left meniscus in 2018 and back to shift in 23 days with no problems. If you want a pain free active life, run don't walk to DR. Bowen, he will put you back together. I recommend Dr. Bowen, his staff and NorthShore to everyone.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
