It is rare to find an orthopedic surgeon who is as caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate as Dr. Petrina Yokay is. After months of deliberation and putting off foot surgery, I finally agreed to have Dr. Yokay lead my complicated surgery alongside Dr. Aziz. Both Dr. Yokay and Dr. Aziz have not seen a foot deformity as complex as mine. I underwent foot surgery when I was just 11 years old to create an arch and to fix a bunion. That surgery went terribly wrong and was extremely ineffective in the short term as well as the long term. Immediately, I saw no correction, and as the years passed, my foot became more and more deformed as it structurally started to lean toward the right side and the bunion became more pronounced. With this knowledge, Dr. Yokay advised me to undergo surgery to correct what was done and to finally create an arch. As you can imagine, I was extremely hesitant since I had a very unpleasant experience before. Dr. Yokay explained everything she was going to do in the procedure in great depth and answered my numerous questions. If I had a question in the last few days prior to the surgery, Dr. Yokay would personally call me back to answer my question. Not only did Dr. Yokay assess my foot deformity, she also took the time to talk to seven other orthopedic surgeons all over the west and east coasts. She showed them my x-rays and they helped her find the very best method in going about this surgery. I do not know of a doctor who goes through great lengths like Dr. Yokay did to do what is best for me. This immediately put me at ease knowing that I have a doctor who is truly doing everything she could to provide me with the best possible care. Throughout the weeks leading up to my surgery, Dr. Yokay assured me that the outcome would be incredible, and sure enough it truly is. My recovery was faster than expected despite the complexity of the surgery. For the first time in my life, I have an arch in my right foot and the toes are well aligned. I am so pleased with Dr. Yokay's advanced surgical technique that I am ready to fix my left foot as well. To me, the most important component I look for in a doctor is how much they truly care about their patients. Dr. Yokay genuinely cares so much about each of her patients and takes the time to get to know them and their concerns in order to treat them with the best possible care.
