Robert Rice's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Rice promised my mom rainbows as her second opinion for knee replacement. Once he performed the surgery, he showed his staff & our family just how unimportant his patients are to him. The morning after her surgery, she was promised pain management by her hospital room nurse at 8am. They told her they were unable to give her anything orally, since they had blown her veins via IV until they spoke to Rice. (including Ibuprofen) & that he was not returning their calls. He finally called them at 4pm. She went 8 hours feeling the horrific pain after a major surgery. She had gone to 2 different ER's because of complications, & none of them could give her antibiotics for her cellulitis and developing infection cause they couldn't get ahold of Rice. When they did, he showed up 4 hours after the time he set with the hospital staff. Her entire leg is black & blue, infected & 3 times the normal size. We're still hoping for a decent recovery.

Was outsourced to Mayo Hospital after fracturing my knee cap.The Veterans Hospital didnt do that kind of surgery.Was told by 2 Orthapedic Surgeons that I needed surgery. Walked into my appt. With Dr. Rice and the front desk lady said you can fill these forms out but we doubt Togus will pay us...then proceeded to tell me about how she was my neighbor and how they were shooting a racoon the other night..bllah blah blah..The LPN did my vitals and said they would get me another leg brace, (they had plenty) as the one i was wearing wasnt fitting right. Dr.Rice came in barely looked at my leg and told me it wasnt actually fractured abd bone fragments and cartilage crumbs wouldnt hurt it.Told me to only wear a brace if i was on uneven ground and to start usi g my leg and putting weight on my knee.The LPN came in and said that they werent giving me a brace because Togus..the VA wouldnt pay for it anyways.Told me to go to a local pharmacy and buy one..Went home..used my leg ..and 2 days later I knew something was terribly wrong..I called Dr Rice to ask him about my knee ..was told he would call me..Never called me back...Went back to the VA for xrays and my knee cap was still fractured and not even in the place its supposed to be..So now Im going to Northern Light to be scheduled for surgery..Mind you..Mayo had a chance to have the ct scan images and xrays from when I damaged my knee but refused them. Filed a complaint with the Administrator of Mayo and was supposed to hear back no later than 7 days..its past that and not a word! Thank you Mayo Staff and Dr Rice for treating this Veteran like a piece of garbage. My final thought is...you wouldnt even send a dog home with a fractured bone and do nothing about it. Dr. Rice recently operated on my hand 'trigger finger release'. I had swelling and went back at least twice. He just looked at the wound and told me to come back in a week. I ended up in the ER with my white count up, infected. A few day's later i ended up back in the ER for 4 day's. 72 hrs of iv antibiotics. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!

Had an accident while distance riding of a pedal bike late Saturday afternoon. Dr. Rice saw me on Monday and assured me that he could replace the shattered hip. Operation on Tuesday; walked on Wednesday; released on Friday morning. Within a week of the surgery I was already walking short distances on my own. Overall, an excellent experience.
