List of Helen Ryan's Reviews
This whole office is an anomaly in my experience. There is barely ANY waiting time and everyone is friendly. Dr. Ryan is exceptionally warm, actually listens, and is straight forward in her explanations and responses without any hint of condescension. I only wish she were a primary care physician!
I go there for blood issues. Dr. Ryan listens and answers in language I understand.
As a non-cancer patient, (Hematology patient), I was given the same time and attention as every patient there. Dr. Ryan is my type of doctor, she takes the time to look at the science, i.e. diagnostic tests, patient history etc.. and makes her diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. She doesn't judge you or make a diagnosis on your looks and many Doctors I see that only have 15 min to see you due to our current medical system. I asked to see her specifically because I was seen by her many years ago. All these years in the system we call medical care has not jaded her in the least. I look forward to seeing her again. Thanks.
sad when a dr puts a dollar sign on patient and not their needs in treatments

Excellent Doctor, knows her specialty, realistic, answers any of my questions, gives helpful advice on how to handle this journey, explains facts of treatments before and after, and over again, if necessary, no secrets.
Given a diagnosis of ET in a 5 minute meeting with almost no information. Told new meds in the development pipeline will be ready in a couple years, comeback in 6 months. That's it, all the information for a diagnosis of blood cancer. Call back to nurse with follow up questions, get a couple of answers including a change of diagnosis to PV (which is worse!) and told if I had more questions I could schedule another appointment ($50 copay). Doctor didn't offer to call me, didn't care.
Dr. Ryan recommended chemotherapy for my polycythemia vera blood condition. She based this on her own experience in treating it in the past. After consulting with two other hemotologists including one PV specialist at Dana Farber in Boston, I found phlebotomy and not chemotherapy was the recommended therapy for me and the recommendation of leading experts backed by evidence based research. Not all patients with PV should have phlebotomy instead of chemo, but even I knew Dr. Ryan's chemotherapy recommendation was wrong for me. My PV is now managed well with phlebotomy but not with Dr. Ryan since she refused to give me this treatment option.
My treatment with Dr. Ryan was based on her 10 years of experience and not on evidence based medical research from a consensus of experts in the treatment of polycythemia vera. Dr. Ryan wrongly told me phlebotomy would not work for me and I needed too start chemotherapy. I sought a second and a third opinion, including Dana Farber in Boston, who as tactfully as they could say it, disagreed with Dr. Ryan's recommendation of chemotherapy for me. Now doing well with phlebotonomy no chemotherapy.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
