After seeing a Rothman ortho knee specialist (who was professional and kind) for several years, I was referred to Dr Smith (who was the exact opposite). I eagerly awaited discussing with him the plan to return to mobility in the sports I love. Rather than read my medical info he made many assumptions that simply were not the case. He was judgmental, rude and abusive. He did not know my medical history or review any of it with me. He simply told me my situation was my own fault and that I would end up a double amputee. He told me multiple times I needed to “knock it off”, with what I do not know. I assume he was again saying my weight and medical issues were a choice. He spoke to me with aggression, blame and verbally smacked me around with no compassion. I truly wish I had recorded the appointment. I paid a co pay to not be examined or even medically consulted. If he simply does not work with patients past a certain BMI that could have been stated before I exposed myself to his abuse.

Dr. Eric Smith is simply the best orthopedic surgeon around. He is knowledgeable and skillful and most importantly has the best bedside manner of any doctor I've ever seen! Dr. Smith is excellent! From the moment that I met Dr. Smith I was treated with the utmost professionalism. He prepared me for every scenario for my upcoming hip surgery. Dr. Smith takes time to explain the situation, puts the decisions in your hand.

Dr Smith explained the knee replacement details in the manor that made me comfortable with the process. He also recently did a double knee on my sister I law and she could not speak highly enough about the process. My surgery is scheduled for August

I cannot rate Dr. Smith highly enough--5 stars do not adequately express his quality as a surgeon and a good man. I was referred to him by a friend who had two knee replacements on the same knee at another facility that had failed. Dr Smith gave her a successful replacement, and I am grateful that she referred me to him. Dr. Smith is professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. He has successfully replaced both my knees and is a very highly competent surgeon. Most importantly he knows what to do when complications arise. I had scar tissue develop with both replacements that impeded my recovery and movement. He recognized the problem immediately and moved to correct the problem when others were taking a wait and see position. Dr. Smith is an excellent surgeon and a caring human being. He should be rated #1--I can't imagine any one else who would be better than him.
