Bloomfield Hills Surgical Center's Online Review Report Card

This surgical center was a huge disappointment. We waited over an hour for our 5 minute procedure, during which time we were given no directions for the prep for the procedure. My daughter finally went to the bathroom, only to be called in to the back about 5 minutes later. Of course, the first thing they asked for was a urine sample. We were not told she would be getting an IV or would need to take a pregnancy test. I assured them (as did she) that she was not pregnant as she had been basically bedbound d/t long Covid for several months. Dr Honet, who was the worst bedside manner (and wearing a puke neon operating smock and if I remember correctly, bright orange crocs) tried to tell us about some movie scene which was really inappropriate but basically insinuating that she could be pregnant and mom might not know. Such a jerk. I wish we would have just left then but she already had the IV and he assured us he was so well-trained at SGB's, had done thousands, trained at this special institute in, I believe, Philadelphia. So the procedure lasted about 5 minutes. She did not experience Horner's sign immediately as we had been told by another very experienced doctor that that was sign of a good block. Dr. Honet told us that we didn't necessarily need to get Horner's syndrome for a good block. We went home, disappointed but hopeful that maybe it would work. She did get a mild Horner's sign that lasted less that 30 minutes and experienced some improvement in her taste that lasted less than 1 hour. But then later, after a few days she started saying that she was having difficulty taking deep breaths and felt out of breath at work. She told me that it started after the SGB but she didn't mention it until a few days later. Consequently, I had to take her to Dr. to get her checked out, had to get xray, inhalers and drop about $250. After about a week, she started to feel better. The second Dr. we saw for SGB in Texas stated that he may have nicked her phrenic nerve. The kicker was when we got the bill. We were told over the phone that the price would be $250 for one side. It wasn't until we got into the surgical center in the back, after she got the iv in that, oh, no, we would be charged $250 for the surgical center too. When I got the bill, I saw that they charged my insurance over $2630 for this procedure. What a complete racket. When I called to speak with billing, she was completely unhelpful and just kept repeating that insurance would not cover it. When I explained what I was initially told, she just kept repeating that insurance would not cover it. I was so angry and she did not offer to have me speak with a manager. Incompetence, poor bedside manner, poor technique, outrageous cost, side effects from his incompetence, unhelpful staff, what a terrible experience. DO not go to this practice.

I went in for back surgery yesterday and the two nurses that took care of me before and after were OUTSTANDING! Kimberly was before and Tina was after. They both went above and beyond. Nurses especially these 2 DESERVE RESPECT!
