List of Sirls Larry Md's Reviews
Dr Sirls did an excellent job performing my vasectomy. All office visits were simple, yet detailed. The doctor was very courteous.
I had my follow up appt today with Dr Sirls from my bladder sling surgery. I live downriver and the location I see him at is in Royal Oak. My appt time was 8:15 AM. I signed in at 8:19. I was called up only to be told that because and I quote “Because you were a few minutes late, Dr Sirls is booked and you need to reschedule”. I simply looked at her and said “Do you know what I went through to get here this morning”. Not her fault – she was simply following a directive from her superior. Needless to say, what I told her to tell him wasn’t pleasant and I then calmly walked out. The more I think about it, the angrier I get, how dare him! My first appointment I was left to wait an hour, and because he was obviously overbooked yet again today I was dismissed for a few minutes!!! I drove over an hour and sat in rush hour traffic, unexpected orange barrels, and I was already stressed having to miss work to make this appointment only to be turned away because apparently his time is more valuable than mine and clearly overbooking was the issue! My gut told me not to have this surgery after meeting Dr Sirls, his arrogance and lack of compassion after surgery validated the fact that I should have went with my gut. I would tell any woman having this surgery to completely do your research, I did not. I only went based on what this doctor told me, trust me, it was not everything. When I had to come in due to complications after my surgery 5 days later (which I was told after that its common) to have a catheter put in and wear home, I was balling. The staff was awesome and actually very compassionate and made sure that I was ok before I left the office. Again, do your research on this surgery. You will be misinformed. And when he says the surgery is only 15 minutes, ask details. I did not. I can tell you, it wasn’t 15 min and the recovery time isn’t one day! I will not be returning to this office. I would NOT recommend this doctor.
After years of being a patient, I had a bladder suspension. The procedure went longer than expected and within 3 months , it failed. I was terribly sick while attempting to recover and he had no patience or empathy. When I returned to show him that the surgery had completely failed , he quickly changed one of his notes ( posted on Beaumont's look at your reports/ tests site) and then kept cancelling my appointments afterward.
I found my way to Dr. Sirls following 1.5 years of bouncing around different departments and specialists at the U of M for saddle numbness and incontinence. Dr. Sirls spent a significant amount of time explaining the problem, possible causes, drawings of my anatomy and remedies to me and my husband. Even though I was the last appointment of the day, he stayed until every one of our questions were answered. He made a referral, even telling me which office to call to get a sooner appointment with his colleague, a different type of surgeon. Though I have no experience with him as a surgeon, I can say that he cares deeply about his patients and all of their concerns.
This is the longest review you'll ever read, sorry! I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. S (two separate appointments). I have issues with frequent urination - I’ve had it since I was very young - and blood in my urine. So I went to him on the recommendation of my OB/Gyn hoping to find some answers as to why this was happening. I’m in the medical field so I expected he would do some tests like residual bladder volume or a cystoscopy. Especially because I had been having hematuria for two years and I thought that warranted investigation. But, nope. Instead of doing any kind of testing, he declared that my problem was with my pelvic floor muscles. To prove it he did a pelvic exam, poked very had at my internal muscles and I said ow and he was like, look, I proved my point!! I then tried to explain to him that I have very bad endometriosis and that’s why I have pelvic pain. He literally told me that I didn’t really have endometriosis, that it’s over diagnosed and almost no one actually has it. That was very hurtful because though my endometriosis is under control now, I went through a couple of rough years. He ended the appointment saying that I wasn’t going to get better unless I went to pelvic floor physical therapy and that was that. I clarified that I would be unable to go for a year because of my schedule. I had a follow up appointment on the books for a couple months later and I decided to go and see if he could offer me something else. At the beginning of the appointment though I calmly told him how uncomfortable and disappointing it was that he said I didn’t have endometriosis. I then read him the surgical report that definitely states that I have it and that it’s very bad. He began to get very defensive. HE STILL TOLD ME THAT I DONT HAVE ENDO. But then he said well you have to find someone to manage your endometriosis, i don’t to that. I’m like dude, it is managed, I’m here for urinary frequency, I was just trying to explain the reason for my pelvic pain- that only occurs when you stab my muscles. At that point he got out is pad and started writing the names of other doctors I could see. All of which has the same pelvic floor philosophy as himself. He again states that I will only get better with PT. I remind him that I’ve gotten it for more than 4 months in the past. His response was that “our physical therapist are better than the ones you saw in Pittsburgh”. I reminded him that this has been a problem since I was very young - I don’t think I had pelvic floor issues in the second grade. I explain that I won’t be able to do PT for 9 months because of my schedule and even if it is magic I need something to help in the meantime. He literally says “that’s not my problem that you can’t go.” Shocked I asked can we do some sort of investigation as to what might be going on other than my pelvic floor muscles were tight. He says “like what?” As though he literally doesn’t know what a would doctor do if not send the patient to PT. I asked for a bladder scan, which did give me useful information. This is a long story and I’m sorry for that. But we all know the negative reviews that say “this was the worst doctor ever” aren’t actually helpful. I’ve thought a lot about the way I behaved during both appointments trying to make sure I wasn’t the problem and I believe that I acted much more appropriately than he did. I made I statements, I clearly stated what I needed, gave him reasons for my concerns about course of treatment (since I had already tried PT and I was having blood in my urine, which seems to me unrelated to pelvic floor disfunction) and stayed calm and didn’t cry when I felt like it. He also made statements that sounded like I was accusing him of being a bad doctor. Though I do feel that way I made sure to clarify that I wasn’t saying negative things about him as a physician I was just speaking to how he made me feel on the two issues.
Good luck getting you prescritions refilled. That does not seem to be a priority for him.
Very rude and very nasty ...will not be back at all. Has not type of compassion or kindness about him has as much personality as a dry erase board. He as well as one of the ladies at the front have horrible attitudes. I only went casue a good friend reccomended him i only wish i was able to see the great things she spoke about.
Dr. Sirls is a fantastic physician! History Before Dr. Sirls at Comprehensive Urology I was a patient at Michigan Institute of Urology (MIU). My experiences with MIU were nothing short of traumatic. Thinking back, I liken MIU to a cattle slaughterhouse. The patients are the cattle and the doctors are the butchers! Back to Dr. Sirls This guy is something special as physicians go. I would go so far to say he is probably among the best urology doctors in the entire state of Michigan and; maybe in the United States. Within one year's time, he and his colleagues were able to repair most of the damage caused by my previous physicians. The quality of my life has been drastically improved due to the work of Dr. Sirls! I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Sirls. There is simply no quit in this guy. He is the epitome of what every doctor should strive to be. Thank you Dr. Sirls!

He believes that women with any kind of urinary frequency issues have it because of pelvic floor dysfunction. He will refuse to work with you if you are unwilling or unable to go to pelvic floor physical therapy nor will he give alternatives in terms of testing for what could be wrong (because it’s ALWASY pelvic floor dysfunction) Even if, as in my case, you had done it for months in the past and it made no difference for your bladder (though it did help my pelvic pain). He refuses to believe that anyone has IC or endometriosis, even if you recite the surgical report for you endometriosis that paints a terrible pictures. He gets scarily defensive when you ask for alternatives and for testing to determine the source of the problem (he refused to test why I was having blood in my urine). When I said I couldn’t do the PT that he was pushing on me until next year because of my schedule and insurance he literally said, in a nasty tone “well that’s not my problem.” It’s hard for me to believe that he doesn’t get a kickback for sending all of his female patients to the same group of pelvic floor physical therapists.
