Great hospital, love having them in Chelsea.
Thankyou to all that helped me. Everyone in the ED were very kind. Thankyou to V. Mosier, NP for listening to my concerns and treating my conditions. What a class act! I'd recommend her to anyone!
I was admitted to the head pain unit for severe chronic migraine and this was the best of the best! Definitely go here if nothing else has worked for you. Major help to me! Great staff and facility, very few minor complaints.
I have now had three experiences with Chelsea Hospital: 2012 with my elderly and very ill mother, 2015 my husband had a 3 week stay with encephalopathy, and 2016 my own 4 day stay with a ruptured & infected appendix. Here is my personal assessment of this EXCELLENT community hospital: 1. The staff is warm, friendly and caring. 2. The medical expertise of nursing and physician staff is topnotch. If additional outside consults are required ( as in the case of my husband's strange brain malfunction after an antibiotic reaction), expertise is brought in from the U of M and/or St. Joe's. 3. Protocols, such as bedside reporting where each new shift change of staff is introduced to the patient individually, humanizes the hospital experience for patients and results in feeling known and well cared for. 4. Food service and system is excellent: timely, individualized, friendly, readily available, and extremely efficient. Food is appropriately prepared for hospital patients and served in a fashion that feels thoughtful, including attention to aesthetics wherever possible. (Example:paper doily under soup) 5. Release procedure are also thorough, efficient, and fast. I have waited as long as seven hours in some hospitals for the paperwork to go through with my mother. 6. The physical facility is state of the art. GORGEOUS, well designed private hospital rooms make healing faster and more pleasant. Large windows with views of the surrounding woods and interior courtyards only makes the experience more pleasant. 7. The facility is cleaner than any other hospital I have visited: Beaumont Troy, Crittenton in Rochester Hills, and particularly, the U ofM emergency room. If I ever need another hospital stay, I will go directly to Chelsea Community Hospital. ~Katharine Keeble, Ph.D Dexter, MI
I injured myself over the holiday weekend. I wasn't really sure what I did, I was fine one minute and in excruciating pain the next. I suffered through it for a day before finally going in to the ER as it became obvious it was not going to get any better. Although all the people in the ER when I went in were REALLY nice and friendly, they never really did diagnose anything or tell me what was wrong. They simply sent me home with a few prescriptions to get me through the next few days until I could get in to see my regular doctor (which is on Wed., 3 days from my initial ER visit). Last night as I am leaving the ER, the following phrase was spoken and then the remainder of the conversation was from the evening after my ER visit: Nurse: "If things get worse or you start to feel any numbness, call us". Today, the pain is worse, I have had spasms all day, and my fingers are numb. I call the ER and tell them "you told me to call if this happened, should I do anything"? The charge nurses response "I don't know, do you feel like you should do anything"? I tell her I would think that is her job to know not mine and her response is "If you think you should come in then you should. I can't give you advise over the phone because of liability". My response "be careful, you are talking to someone that has slept only a few hours in the past 2 nights, I really don't F-ing care if I offend you or not. I was told to call in if this happened, don't tell me to call if you are then going to tell me you are not able to tell me anything over the phone. Can you see why I would be a little pissed right now"? Anyway, the charge nurse insisted that they "typically do not send people home with those instructions to call in if things get worse and perhaps if I was that unhappy I should think about visiting another hospital. I guess when you have a monopoly on the only hospital for a 30 minute drive you don't really have to worry about treating people with respect or as if they have any intelligence themselves.
Be prepared to sit and wait for hours.... We spent 2 hrs waiting on Wed in ER to be seen while my wife bled and moaned in pain. Now ... A week later we are waiting another 2hrs to have stitches removed. Any competent nurse could do the job in 5 minutes.... What's the deal?? This hospital takes "one" patient at a time... No idea if they are ever accountable for this lack of efficiency. We pay for this???
We arrived here at 5:45 on a Saturday, having been told to go "immediately" after a trip to UrgentCare. The woman checking us in said, "It's going to be a while." She wasn't kidding. Even though he had a fever over 102 degrees and was groaning from abdominal pain (with the paperwork UrgentCare told us to present right away), it was 2 hours before my husband was taken back. Immediately, a nurse came to the waiting room to tell me he was being admitted for emergency surgery to remove his appendix. Think spending 2 hours in the waiting room helped? Gah. I wished we'd just driven to St. Joe's Ypsi in the first place. The "Java" place has incredibly reasonable prices and the food was pretty good, too. Also, Bill, the nurse tending to my husband, was wonderful! So kind, and he spoke to my kids like they were people.
Woodland area cafeteria has Sunday brunch every 2nd Sunday of the month, through May, returning in September. $16.95 each includes a beverage. Very friendly servers, and great brunch selection. Only buffet brunch in Chelsea. It's almost like a little secret, but now you know! Hospital was recently remodeled. Park at the main entrance. Follow the signs to Woodland.
Was here yesterday for the first time. My wife had to have her feet operated on and this is where the surgeon does his thang. I will say right off that the ONLY reason this is not a 5 star is because there is a lot of construction going on and some of the interior halls are blocked or rerouted. BUT, the whole registration, pre op, recovery and post op experience was very reasonable. Very friendly staff. Very friendly doctors. Lots of communication. We are both very pleased with the time we spent here. May need to consider this hospital for future procedures. Definitely a go to place in my book...but only if need to.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
