List of Carl Wierks's Reviews
I went to Carl Wierks for both of my Hip Arthroscopy surgeries. Torn labrum, damaged cartilage, misshaped bone, and early signs of arthritis. I was 19 years old when I got my first surgery and 25 when I got my 2nd. One on each hip, one during my football offseason and one after I hung up the cleats. Surgery and recovery were flawless. I was told roughly 2-4 months on crutches and 12 weeks of PT. During the off-season I took a couple of months off and then returned to full sprints after 4 months, in time for all football activities. I was walking pain free after 2 weeks and got out of Pt 4 weeks early both surgeries. Any athletes former or current, I recommend going to Dr.Wierks. The first 2 days had some stiffness and soreness but the scars are about 1 inch long and with some CBD/THC cream they went away to virtually nothing. To all people who are complaining about BMI or weight restrictions, he is a Doctor… He knows what he is doing… He went to a lot of school…. Set your feelings aside, and lose some weight, I’m sure if he was a truly “bad doctor” he would do the surgery to gain money and not care about his patients, but that’s clearly not the case. It seems all the bad reviews are because he “wasted my time” because the individual had a high BMI of was too fat. If he was wasting your time, he would waste 6 months of your life on crutches, instead you learned in 1 or 2 appointments, that you need to lose some weight.
Dr. Wierks was great. I am 4 months out from my right hip replacement and I feel great! Surgery was quick, professional, and I was up and walking within 45 minutes after it.
Dr. Wierks and Kevin do a great job! I had a labral repair and bone shave in my hip. From my first appointment to my final appointment I never felt rushed and felt very comfortable asking any questions. I felt confident Dr. Wierks knew what he was doing in the surgery. Additionally, I am a physical therapist and he has a great protocol for optimal healing.

Deceptive, dishonest & inhumane. I had a hip arthroscopy performed by Dr. Wierks over 3 years ago due to a supposed torn labrum. I was not educated or informed concerning what the surgery would entail or how to care for myself post-operation. I have massive scars and significantly worse pain post-operation. It was post-operation that I developed the symptoms of a torn labrum. Follow-up was minimal and my concerns were ignored. Some bone was also shaved during the operation and when I was shown the before and after of the bone shaving on x-ray, the amount of bone taken was absolutely appalling. I was told my hip should not be able to “pop” post-surgery and that has not been true either. A radiologist outside of Spectrum looked at my MRIs (unfortunately post-surgery) and told me he wouldn’t have even recommended that I have surgery. My body is permanently damaged from allowing Dr. Wierks to operate.
Thank you, Dr. Wierks! The drive up to Grand Rapids was well worth it. After almost 2 years of sports medicine doctors and lots of P.T., he offered a cortisone injection for my hip pain. After 2 days, I was pain free! I don't understand the negative reviews - he was attentive, kind, and very pleasant. Thanks again!!
Dr. Wierks preformed hip arthroscopy (a hip scope) for me in 2012. My hip had a labral tear and moderate severe arthritis damage. Despite this he was able to preform microfracture a procedure that helps produce scar type cartilage that has lasted me for these 9 years. Dr. Wierks if a Philippon fellow from the Steadman Clinic and specializes in sports injuries and hip arthroscopy.
Hip surgery for FAI and labrum tear in fall 2018. Completed a 100 mile race almost exactly one year later. Friendly, staff was great, everything went well. The negative reviews are odd to me, my experience was fantastic.
I partially dislocated my hip playing soccer, tore my labrum. After dealing with instability/pain in my hip for almost a year I decide to have surgery. So glad I did! 3 months post op I knew I made the right decision. I can run and do everything else again. I’m so grateful for dr Wieks and his PA, I think of them as Batman and Robin. Dr. Wierks bedside manner could have been better but I chose him because he is an excellent surgeon and that is what matters at the end of the day.
I couldn't have asked for a better experience with Dr. Wierks, his PA Kevin and all of the staff at West MI Ortho and Grand Rapid Surgical Suites for my left and right hip replacement surgeries due to joint degeneration from hip dysplasia. I am 3 weeks out from the last replacement and I have to remind myself that I am still in recovery, as there hasn't been any pain since soon after surgery. Also, he called the dysplasia after 3 or 4 doctors through the years thought it was simply a back/disc issue. Dr. Wierks and his crew are very kind, responsive and patient. I am so excited to be pain-free finally!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
