Karen Dempsey Md's Online Review Report Card

This is late in coming ("life" happened in the months that I wanted to write the review, but I still wish I'd done so earlier!), but I wanted to share our experience of Dr. Karen Dempsey. Very short answer: we love her dearly, and she is--and has been from day one--a gift from God to us. My wife (Kathy) was diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer (spread to her brain, bones, and lymph nodes) in January of 2020, and we were connected to Dr. Karen through an extraordinary sequence of events (including her doctor daughter--our "Angel", as we call her!), and we had our breath taken away by the sheer generosity and care that Dr. Karen gave to us. Our first visit (which she deliberately scheduled at the end of the day... not only to help accommodate my work schedule, but in order to spend more time with us) was *several hours* long; and during that time, she was so loving and so caring and so considerate (and so brilliant and eager to show/tell us whatever we needed, in order to make our own decisions about Kathy's care) that it moved me to tears (though I held out until we left!). Kathy's own mom couldn't have cared for us with more love and compassion than Dr. Karen did. Utterly incredible, but true. Dr. Karen's staff are of the same mold; I was again (and as a side-note: I don't cry easily, to say the least) moved to tears when the scheduler took the time to reassure me of their prayers and support, and to assure me that we weren't alone in all this. When the world comes crashing down, words can't describe how life-giving it is to have people like this care for you. Dr. Karen has been with us in the journey since January, and we've been amazed at the sheer amount of work, and the amazing level of expertise, she brought to our help (much of which was researched recently--she really digs into these projects in order to help us, even when they're immensely complicated with lots of options and decisions and opinions, etc .); she took an almost hopelessly tangled situation and helped us negotiate it successfully. She fought *very* hard to get the best possible team of specialists for Kathy's case (we only found out HOW hard she fought, after the fact!), and succeeded... and she prayed us and loved us through it all. (Epilogue: Kathy is doing so well, right now... miraculously, beyond what we could have hoped... and Dr. Karen was an integral part of that.) I'm almost beyond words, beyond saying again that we love her dearly, and she's been a life-giving gift to us... in so many more ways than one.

She is so cold and does not listen. Punctuality is not one of her best qualities.

Karen screamed at me until I was in tears. I was 15 years old and Very depressed and anxious. She told me I don’t want to get better and continued to yell even after I was crying. I had to leave the room. Karen made me fear doctors. Do not go to her.

Dr Karen is extremely thorough listening carefully and asking questions to address any medical issues. She does not hurry through the apt and I have spent over an hour when necessary. She is exceptional in dermatology as well and has removed many moles even on my face. She is compassionate and truly invests in the well being of her patients.

She does spend a lot of time with you and is very thorough. Unfortunately, the wait time is very long. They need to schedule appointments better considering how much time she spends with her patients. It is very frustrating to have to wait 45 minutes after your scheduled time to see her, no matter what time of day you schedule your appointment for.

Dr. Karen is a very sweet and she makes you feel comfortable in the most uncomfortable circumstances. Only thing I have an issue with is if my appointment is at 10:00am I don't get my name called until 10:45. Then I am in the exam room for another 50min. I understand that she has lots of patients but they have to understand most of us are missing work for appointments. I also feel super comfortable with her. She just needs to work on her scheduling and maybe not have so many patients in one day.

I love Dr. Karen. She is one of the nicest doctors i have ever met. Only bad thing is if you have an appt you pry will be sitting in waiting room 45 min and room 50 min to an hour. Other than that i feel 100 percent comfortable with her.

Dr. Karen Dempsey is amazing! She takes all the time you need to explain what is going on with your body. She never makes you feel unintelligent for the questions you ask! I highly recommend her!

Though the staff is adequate and punctuality could be better, one would be hard pressed to find a doctor more wonderful than Dr. Karen Dempsey.
