List of Edward Smith's Reviews
Do not come to Dr. Edward Smith's office. He is full of sh*t. I visited his office yesterday to get my eyes screened. Dr. Smith was trying to scare me saying that there is a hole in my right retina, but when I went to visit my optometrist at Park Slope Optical last month, he said that my retina is stretched no hole, and my eyes looked healthy. So do not make appointments at Dr. Smith's office because he'll try to scare patients by telling them they are going blind.
my mother has been going to this doctor for years. in the last month, the experience has us looking for a new doctor. his dreadful receptionist, (caribbean accent) has been condescending, rude, dismissive, and borderline disrespectful. it's unfortunate when a doctor loses patients because of poor staff capacity. the receptionist, ewa is a complete gem--which is the only saving grace. i found myself calling at times to avoid one receptionist in order to get actual help. i ended up hanging up without a resolution. to dr. smith, your reception practices will cost you immensely. i strongly suggest you speak with your staff about how they speak with patients-- no one wants to pay for that. no one wants to experience that. 1.your receptionist, (not ewa) is extremely rude and told us that our "story was too long" call back later. 2.when we did she put us on hold for over 7 minutes. i called from another phone and was connected with ewa, who was the only reason i did not advise my mother to find a new doctor. 3.i will write this review on every single platform until the customer service changes. 4.there is no excuse for your receptionist's behavior and tone. she reports to you and therefore is a reflection of you.
Last I read, this doctor's license still suspended by the CPSO and now he's sanctioned again. Is he still practicing or has he cut his losses?
One July 21, 2020, the CPSO ruled that “Dr. Smith committed an act of professional misconduct under paragraph 1(1)34 of Ontario Regulation 856/93, in that he engaged in conduct unbecoming a physician. Smith was once again fined and reprimanded, only months following termination of his previous suspension. This is the second time Smith has been sanctioned by the CPSO in the past ten months. What a thoroughly disreputable man, a wretched disgrace to his honourable profession.
Do your own homework if you are new and read what patients (lay persons) have experienced. Dr Smith made an error and the CPSO has provided the temporary suspension until May 2020. He is a phenomenal physician and has been painted with the same brush as those who have conducted heinous crimes. I know I will continue with Dr Smith as he cares for me and all his other patients. For the writer below, don’t mock or diminish patient feedback in this forum. I wonder - who are you to be so disparaging? Also - yes the CPSO has created expectations for deliverables. Until the completion of the temporary suspension plus the requisite other elements our Physician is not available to us. An error due to a change in clinical practices is still an error and the CPSO treats all aspects the same whether with intent or unintended. I have had great benefit with being with Dr Smith including diagnoses of really bad health and fighting it.
Current and potential patients of Edward Smith should ignore the hand waving and distortions posted in support of Edward Smith by laypeople on this board and do their own real diligence by reading the College of Physicians and Surgeon of Ontario investigation and disposition of Edward Smith's case. The full report is linked below. Again, Edward Smith engaged in professional misconduct by performing unauthorized, high-risk procedures in an unsafe practice environment, lied to the College about it, got caught, and is now suspended and barred from practicing medicine. On December 9, 2019, Smith abandoned his appeal of College's determination, confirming that he is a disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional "doctor" who failed to maintain the standards of the profession. Smith continues to be suspended and can only return to his "practice" after the suspension period is concluded and he successfully passes an ethics course. Not a good look for Edward Smith and a red flag for those looking for a good doctor. Dr Smith is your go to guy if you are sick. He IS the smartest guy in the room if you don’t know what is going on and want to understand the issues and how to feel better - mentally or physically. For the negative people that are only saying it is good he gets reprimanded for a lack of judgement - you are either non-patients or have never had to work in healthcare. Should the College read this - I want to know why you chose to be so harsh with Dr Smith and given lesser penalties to physicians who have cause mental or physical harm. Since Dr Smith’s temporary leave I have been reading the CPSO’s Listings and it is very clear there is zero consistency and LITTLE if ANY consideration for patient well being ....
It is a very thing this doctor's licence has been suspended. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. Well, no more, right?!
Dr. Smith is an amazing physician and is one that cares. His temporary suspension is an utter waste of time by the college of physicians. With all the challenges in health care these days, this is where the college feels it is serving patients the best? I truly wished they sought out the opinion of his patients before acting as such. Really CPSO, this is the best work you can do for us - that is fault someone for an error without negative impact or complaint? Seems like a witch hunt and also a punishment for all the patients who have been served by a caring and competent physician.
How anyone can recommend Edward Smith is beyond me. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario suspended, fined and reprimanded him. It found that he engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct and failed to maintain the standard of practice of the profession. He lied to the College in 2010 and claimed he was not performing certain “Out-of-Hospital” interventional pain management procedures. Smith was caught in that lie by the College in 2016. The College conducted an investigation and it’s expert concluded that Smith displayed a lack of judgment and knowledge in performing high-risk OHP procedure in an unapproved setting, without adequate staffing, equipment and adequate means or expertise to treat potential life-threatening complications. He was suspended, fined and reprimanded for his actions. Why would anyone in need of medical treatment go to this doctor when one can go to a medical professional who has not been suspended, fined and reprimanded for disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct? Read the College of Physicians and Surgeons findings yourself and ask yourself whether you are a better judge of professional competence and integrity than they are: https://doctors.cpso.on.ca/DoctorDetails/Edward-James-Smith/0029015-33838

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
