Dr. McDowell is obviously experienced and knowledgeable. And fa.st when you're in trouble!
one star is too much! Terrible bedside manner. I have been in many er rooms and doctors offices with family members ( and am a former rn) and I have never seen a more arrogant doctor in my life. He needs a course in bedside manner !
He is a horrible doctor. Do not let this man help your children. He is a bumbling fool. It really shows the quality of Dickinson County Hospital. Why would a hospital hire such a fool? He is rude and disrespectful too.
Horrible Doctor, dont let him near your children.
Horrible Doctor do not see this man he is a Quack. Also he is very rude.
Treatment of children in pain is horrible, rude and disrespectful! Record this Dr. with your phone, if you ever allow this person touch your children!
His attitude is horrible. The way he makes his patients feel is uncalled for. I have dealt with him several times for myself, my children, and other family members over the years. If he is working there is no point going as he does not care. He will not explain anything, he will no offer any suggestions. He will get upset with you if you ask questions.
Needs to get a better bedside manner.
Dr. McDowell deserves more than a 2 star rating I and my wife have been served by Dr. McDowell on several occasions with great results. My opinion is that Dr. McDowell should have no less than a rating of 4 sand 1/2 stars.
My teenage daughter has seen Dr. Douglas McDowell at DCHS a few times. Most of them were in the ER and most recently at our Convenient Care Clinic. At one of the ER visits, Dr. McDowell stressed my husband and I by telling us that our 15 year old daughter was preganant. Both my daughter and I insisted to Dr. McDowell that she was not sexually active. A little while later Dr. McDowell came back and said test results came back negative and that she was not pregnant! He justified giving us the wrong information by going off on a tangent about how test results can be inconclusive at times and sometimes they are wrong. It is my firm belief that ANY professional should be cautious when advising their patient with such an alarming news or at the very least do their due diligence BEFORE consulting with the patient so that they are informed correctly! We also had a negative experience with him at the Convenient Care Clinic because he was very short, disengaging and very abrupt with his instructions. My daughter went in for a possible strep throat and he said that he could either test her for it or just treat her for it and he was fine with either one. I was dumfounded because here is a medical professional telling me to decide to treat my daughter for something that she hasn't been tested for. Needless to say, we went ahead to treat her with antibiotics without doing a culture. Both the nurse and Dr. MacDowell were very abrupt with their instructions and told us wrong instructions and possible symptoms for the antibiotic. This we know because we talked to the pharmacy department and they said that the medication would not cause diarrhea and that she should not eat before taking the medication. I agree with the the other reviewer that Dr. McDowell is arrogant and he needs to improve his bedside manners.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
