Charles J. Taunt Jr's Online Review Report Card

Wait time in room was 30 minutes before Dr Taunt came in. Other than wait time, excellent visit, Dr explained the deterioration off my hip which now requires surgery. He explained the surgery/post-op/recovery time. He put my mind at ease regarding upcoming surgery.

Very pleased with office visit with Dr. Taunt. Have known him professionally for many years & have recommended him to friends & family. Have now known him on a personal level with my own surgical procedure & I continue to regard him as an outstanding surgeon.

I researched surgeons in the area and found Dr. Taunt to have very high ratings. There is no doubt that he is exemplary in knee replacements given the reviews of his patients. My low score stems from the treatment I received from him regarding his responses to my attempts to discuss and question some of the medications he uses after surgery (I have specific reactions to different medications), his defensive behavior when I was describing my impeded and painful recovery and his need to project blame on me, the patient, instead of working with me as a doctor should, to find out why recovery is not where it should be. Right before surgery I was told "It's my way or the highway" when I inquired about the medications he was prescribing after surgery. He disputed my inability to take certain medications. When the surgery was completed and I could not move my leg off of the bed, he told me to "Buckle up Buttercup. His patients did not tell him no." The pain medication he prescribed was not effective and the block given to suppress pain wore off early. During a phone call (heard by others) he called me a liar and disputed my body's reactions to the medications (or lack of). I did appreciate the online Health Loop and the fact that he did respond right away, even if his responses at times undermined my concerns. Twice Dr. Taunt stated (once online and another in front of an intern and my son) that my issue was "mental" and my anxiety was preventing me from moving forward and healing. His reaction was completely offensive and I was especially upset that a young intern was watching a popular doctor negate and gaslight his patient. This is completely unacceptable. Almost three months after my surgery (done in April 2023) I have a painful limp, require the assistance of a cane and experience constant pain throughout my entire leg. I have sought the expertise of another surgeon out of this area and I hope that answers and relief will result as I work with this specialist. In my opinion, a good doctor is not only competent in their specialty, they are compassionate and can put their egos aside to work with their patients when factors arise that may not be typical after a surgery. I have always been a very active and physically hard working individual. My acquired disability has prevented me from participating in many of the activities I am used to doing. I have religously done at home exercises and PT. I feel that Dr. Taunt did not take into consideration any of my existing, medical issues (sleep apnea, neuropathy, fibro and reactions to medications) when looking at a post surgery medical plan nor would he acknowledge that the chronic pain and hampered mobility I have been experiencing needed more consideration than assuming that I was sabotaging my own progress. His behavior severed my trust in him as a doctor which is why I have sought the opinion of another specialist.

Rushes patients, becomes indignant if questioned, resorts to name calling of the patient, unsympathetic to patient if overweight or experiencing pain. Would not recommend.

This was way better than I could have ever have imagined. I had a total knee replacement in the end of May and I have no pain to speak of. This is a really good team with great leader. No question goes unanswered. I went for a bike ride, kayaking and golfing all last week. Last Wednesday was my 6th week after surgery! Life is really good thank you!

Did not have any waiting, everything was very quick and efficient, everything was explained very clearly and professionally, all personnel was very personable. I was extremely pleased.

Dr Taunt is great. He redid my failed by knee replacement that had already been done twice different Drs. Repaired it correctly and I have no pain in that knee at all. He will be doing the left as well. Highly recommend him and his PA. The staff are all nice as well.
