Paul Makela's Online Review Report Card

I was scheduled for a prolapse organ surgery which consists of a sacral couple plexi and a hysterectomy by Mackla. I have had 3 vaginal exams by him he missed an ulcer that was behind my cervix and did not treat the granuloma that was on my cervix this could have caused me to have a really bad infection if I would have had the surgery by him. I could have had a fistula to my bladder or to my intestines or could have had abscesses and got septic and ended up in the ICU unit. Dr. Mackla could not remember that I never had surgery done by him he asked me three times when I went to his office if he had done surgery on me all he had to do was look at my chart. I started to lose confidence in him even though he's already scheduled my surgery. The hospital could not give me my pre-op orders until three days before the surgery we're all other hospitals have given it to you at least two weeks ahead of time. The hospital is very unorganized in their pre-op area. After I have done all the surgical prep. I went to the hospital at the time they told me to go 5:30 in the morning then told me my time had changed and it wouldn't be till 8:30 in the morning that was fine I needed to call the test which I got. I asked the pre-op nurse has a lot of questions I wanted to know what it all entailed of the surgery and the medication I would be receiving and if I were be giving antibiotics nothing unreasonable to ask them. The pre-op nurses told me I had to go back home and that they would call when I was ready for my surgery would be another hour or two hours. While I was at home dr. Makela called me and canceled my Surgery because I've asked too many questions to their staff this is unacceptable . I was appalled to see that he would do such a thing when I needed the surgery done. I recently had the surgery done at St Joseph's hospital out of Pontiac by a great surgeon dr. Corsi they were wonderful from the beginning of pre-op the answered all my questions to the end of my post-op care I would recommend him to anyone that needs organ prolapse surgery a sacralcolpoplexy a hysterectomy he also does posterior colporrhaphy.I gave this Hospital greater than a 5-star rating they were wonderful can't say the same about Saint Mary's very disappointed in St Marys and dr. Makela for canceling my surgery but I did have it done I am now five weeks out and I'm doing wonderful if I were you I would get a second opinion to what he tells you or treat you badly

He is an amazing doctor and surgeon. I can not express in words what he has done for me. He went above and beyond any expectations a person could have making my surgery, (hysterectomy, bladder sling and more), possible and fast. I will be forever grateful.

I just had surgery last Tuesday it was extensive and went great! He explained every step of the way and after he explained everything then too. I am very happy with the awesome care I received!

Really nice Doctor and very professional. Getting diagnosed can take too much time though when you have an issue. After being in daily pain for 3 months, I eventually had to go to the ER to get a diagnosis and the ER Doctors used an ultrasound, revealing multiple problem-causing fibroids which I never knew I had. He's a great doctor for some people, but I had to go elsewhere to get my problems taken care of.

My first appointment went better than I expected. He talked to me on wat I could understand. He asked a lot of questions spent more than 40 mins. With me. He was respectful, caring and knowledgeable with every question I had. I have been to the big name hospital in Michigan. And rested the run around. I spent 3 years of wasted time. He did more for me in 5 weeks . I would recommend him .

I would recommend doctor Makela to family and friends, I like the way he explains simple to more complex procedures to his patients. He is always kind, comes in with a smile and answers all of your questions. Thank you Dr. Makela!!!

I came to see Dr. Makela for an issue I was having, which required me to have a procedure done. He took his time in explaining everything to me in detail. They were able to schedule my procedure very quickly, and I feel great now. He is an amazing doctor and I would recommend him to anyone who needs a Gynecologist.

Highly highly recommend you find anyone else - unprofessional, will not treat you with dignity or respect and his staff is very difficult to work with and refuse to cooperate with other physician and surgeon offices

Dr. Makela performed several surgeries on my post menopausal body. He was kind, professional and kept me informed. He visited me daily while in the hospital and stayed to talk. Unlike other doctors he took the time to make sure I was comfortable. He used robotic surgery which helped with a quick recovery.

Dr. Makela has a great bed side manner and he tries to engage his patients to make them feel comfortable, he is very competent and capable of operating the DaVinci Robotic for hysterectomy's I had very little blood lose and no complications I would recommend him to anyone
