E. Michael Grady's Online Review Report Card

Do not sign up unless you have zero scripts you ever need. Coordinating with Dr. Grady's office on prescriptions--the main service my visits call for--is a total nightmare. Everything gets gummed up. The receptionists say only that they can submit a request for a script from the doc or NPs through a portal, and can't say when they'll approve it. It never gets done that same day or the next day, and it'll take 6 calls and 6 calls or visits to the pharmacy to work it out. Plus, they will not coordinate at all with the pharmacy or med benefits managers. I like the office and the doctor, but it's unacceptable how the key service of the practice fails patients.

Dr. Grady is going whole hog with his new "Concierge" offering, the usual care at a higher cost. I keep getting brochures at my house with people playing golf and not worried about their medical care because they joined this wonderful plan. I don't appreciate it, since I severed ties with them about a year ago and don't like to get mailed reminders of how much I dislike golfers. I suppose the front desk gals are getting a chuckle over it. As usual (save for a certain endocrinologist's office), the admin folks treat you like a number, throw out all kinds of rules and regs (and sometimes mistruths) to get you in line. I understand the glut of blue hairs and the shortage of doctors, but I don't like it when they assume you don't understand the technology and it's YOUR fault if you don't have a Zoom login that they did not send you. I wonder why they didn't tell me when I first came to Dr. Grady's office that I would get less than optimal care unless I joined the country club and made my dues. And for those who do pony up the extra shekels, I say watch for the sand traps.

I agree with Andrew D. on all points. I will add that I have had to go down to their DC office from Silver Spring just to get the prescriptions that I need to keep from having a stroke. They withheld the prescriptions from my local Walgreens because I had not set up an annual ('physical'). I had already scheduled one days before I drove downtown. This has happened on more than one occasion, and I learned after several attempts that it was the doctor and not the pharmacist who was holding up my meds. Dr. Grady surely has to take some blow back from the front desk gals, who are attractive and poised but tell you things that just ain't so. I almost wish I could have a stroke right in their doorway to demonstrate what's at stake. Would love to see the front desk filled with nurses instead of telemarketers.

Service from Doctors/NPs: 4/5 Front Desk Service: 1/5 *Warning!* ~ If you rely on your doctor to coordinate with other doctors or with pharmacies, go somewhere else! *Takeaway* ~ Unfortunately, the Grady office is comfortable letting their patients carry serious burdens created by the office's own errors. My Experience: As someone with a diagnosed medical condition that impacts my daily functioning, I rely on prescribed medication for treatment. Because the medication is a legally controlled substance (non-prescribed people use it as a "party drug"), it is essential that my doctor and doctor's office responsibly and responsively handle its prescription. Dr. Grady's office has handled the prescription process neither responsibly nor responsively. First, their front desk/admin service is very poor. Based on past experience, I expect that when their front desk says something "will" happen (a message will be passed on, prescription will be sent somewhere, etc.), take that as a sign it maybe won't happen. *If* it happens, it may not be any time close to what they provide, if they even do provide a rough time estimate. Second, their office wrote my prescription in a way that it was actually cancelled - yes, cancelled, rejected, nullified, kicked to the curb - by a pharmacy for the first time in my entire adult life of being prescribed the medication. Third, in trying to resolve their mistake and get my medication filled on time, my wife and I spent the better part of two days trying to coordinate with their office and local pharmacies. Driving 40+ minutes out of our way (25 min. each direction) to a pharmacy the office swore they had sent the prescription to, we discovered that their office sent the prescription in the wrong format, which is why it still wasn't showing up in the pharmacy's system and couldn't be filled! The amount of leg work we had to do to just get my prescription normally filled out in a timely manner was super unprofessional. (By the way, it's still not going to be on time.) Fourth, when I spoke with their admin over the phone, she said they were learning to do better the next time I saw them. When I (politely!) said I wouldn't be coming in to them again, her response was "Great!" When I began to suggest they could learn from this for future patients since it's a somewhat common prescription, she cut me off by saying "I'm not the person who takes notes here." On the positive side, I generally received kind and professional direct care from the NP's I saw virtually. Issues like the above outweigh the positive and need to be fixed.

Dr Grady was on duty years ago when I became sick and went to georgetown Hospital. He diagnosed and resolved my problem which was complicated. I began seeing him during his final years at Georgetown and have been a patient ever since. He's enormously talented, calm and methodical. He will take time to explain what's going on with you and make specific recommendations. I have referred many people to Dr Grady and each has thanked me for the suggestion.
