We brought our 5 year old to him over a year ago because of being backed up. The doctor felt his belly put him on laxatives and told us hed call in 6 months. He never called, my son is still having horrible pains and backed up even with taking the laxatives daily and having to double and sometimes triple the doses. We called and had to demand another appointment for my son to be seen, for the doctor to feel his stomach and just want to up his laxatives saying that is just how he is and will be for the rest of his life. We have lpst a family friend due to a doctor not doing imaging for a bowel obstruction and just perscribing more laxatives. I asked the doctor if he could order imaging for my son and he said its not necessary that my son being backed up even on laxatives for over a year is just how he is going to be for the rest of his life. I had to tell him that I want imaging done 3 times before he agreed to put in an order for it. The doctor also told us to do a "clean out" on my son with doing 6x the dose of laxative 3 days prior, I did it for 5 days prior to his imaging. To make sure they could see what was the issue is, my sons imaging came back and said he is completely backed up, even though we did the clean out and he was going basically water. I called to ask the doctor what to do for another clean out and to reorder imaging. The nurse said the doctor told us to just double his dose for the next six months and he would have us come back and feel his stomach and no to reordering imaging. I will not keep doing this to my 5 year old he cries daily about his belly hurting and his butt because of the laxatives and will not have him end up like our family friend. I dont understand how a pediatric specialist can be so unconcerned with this, when we told his primary she was appalled and thought it was already resolved due to us not asking her questions since he had been seen over a year ago.
