Saw Dr. S in the 1990s for very complex, life-long RA and related multiple conditions. I'll be honest: I'm not a fan of the allopathic industry. Other rheumatologists I had seen were unresponsive, uncaring, and unwilling to listen. They were prideful. Not Dr. Schlesinger. He was compassionate, knowledgeable, humble and open to discussion and reason. He was also gifted at giving cortisone shots. Not every rheumatologist can do that. Only reason I quit seeing him was because I developed a severe immune deficiency due to a splenectomy. As a result, I wasn't able to depend on pharm drug treatments (at the time) without risking serious consequences. That limited him with what he could do from a conventional standpoint. I later pursued alternative medicine with good results. But if I were trying to find a good, qualified allopathic rheumatologist, Dr. S. would be my #1 choice. Other rheumatologists that I saw previously were, quite frankly, prideful, unsympathetic, and unwilling to listen and learn from patients. Dr. S. listened and genuinely cared. He never professed to know it all and if he didn't have an answer, he found out. Lastly, Dr. Schlesinger's attire always brought an added measure of fun in seeing him with his selection of bow-ties. Am hoping he still wears them. In view of the fact that it's currently 2019, I'm aware that he could be approaching retirement but don't let that deter you from making an appointment. I highly recommend Dr. Schlesinger.

Was a patient of Dr. S for sometime in the 1990s for complex lifelong RA & related autoimmune diseases. I dislike doctors in general but Dr. S was decent & compassionate, knowledgeable & humble. He never professed to have all the answers. Only reason I quit seeing him was because my immune system was shot & there wasn't much he could do to treat my RA conventionally. He had a dry sense of humor & I enjoyed his attire (ie., bow ties). Dr. S was outstanding at giving cortisone shots--a real gift. Not all MDs know how to do that well. I've since sought alternative medicine but if I were looking for an allopathic rheumatologist, Dr. S would be my #1 choice. I've been to others and was intensely disappointed with their know-it-all attitude & lack of empathy. Dr. S was open to discussion & reasonable, unlike others. I highly recommend Dr. Schlesinger.

I was a patient of Dr. Schlesinger in the early 2000’s. I was just thinking about him, looked him up, and wanted to make a comment. I received the best, compassion care from him. Very personable! He helped set me up with a R.A. Dr. When I moved to another state. Fortunately the next Dr. was also compassionate and personable. He is a wonderful man!

Not sure I would recommend him. There is a lack of follow up from his office (or perhaps he doesn't like me.). He doesn't seem current on rheumatology as I would like. I agree with the other reviewer that he seemed distracted and scattered. He is medication avoidant, so if you know what you have and you need aggressive treatment, this is *definitely* the wrong doctor for you. The staff for the doctors at the office are great, though. He also seems to have the attitude common in the Twin Cities that patients are imbeciles. I'm not surprised to see "Mpls St Paul" magazine's January 2016 issue giving a front page article to integrative health given the attitude of the MDs especially rheumatologists in the area.

I would not recommend this doctor. He has been distracted and scattered. I have had to return to the pharmacy or the lab several times because of prescriptions he forgot to call in or labs he added on after the visit. My condition suffered as a result of his poor care, as I went six weeks without a prescription due to his slow response, and then another couple months on the medication which was not helpful. The nursing staff in the clinic are excellent - very helpful and friendly. At first I thought maybe he wasn't given a message by one of the nurses who returned my call, but a little too coincidental that this has happened multiple times with different nurses. He has admitted he had some personal things going on, and I feel for him, but it should not affect patient care. If you can't be helpful to your patients, refer to another rheumatologist.
