Gregory Szych's Online Review Report Card

Came to er on Saturday around 5 pm cause I had a piece of steak hung in esophagus since Thursday er said had no one on call at night so for me to call before I came in Sunday to make sure they had someone to do it and I did so came back and they started giving me same meds they did Saturday that didn’t work and the doctor in er called this gi doctor to come in to get the meat out of my esophagus and he refused to come in because it was not life threatening so got sent home again and was told to come back the next morning so back again but thankfully he is not the one on call. This doctor is a sorry excuse to be a gi doctor and should be fired from West Tn Healthcare before he kills someone

He will not listen!!! Runs test after test not related to any issues your may be having. Dismissive. Uncaring. Never returns call or gives results of tests before ordering more.

Dr. Szych's negligence in providing aftercare instructions and information about the procedure he performed has caused my husband to be hospitalized and in pain. He does not care about his patients' wellbeing. If it weren't so expensive, I would sue him for malpractice. There are better surgeons and doctors out there who will take the time to explain procedures, outcomes, and aftercare instructions to patients.

Dr. Szych's negligence landed my husband in the hospital. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who cares about their health or the health of their loved ones. Find a doctor who will take the extra 10 minutes to provide adequate aftercare instructions instead of this careless clown.

Dr. Szych is a careless, negligent doctor who does not care enough about his patients to provide correct aftercare instructions or fully explain procedures that can be life-altering. His negligence landed my husband in the hospital and he is still in pain as a result. Shame on this doctor. Find a doctor who actually cares about their patients.

Dr. Szych gave my husband incorrect aftercare instructions following a complex procedure and as a result, my husband ended up in the hospital. Dr. Szych also failed to inform us of a risk of complications from the procedure and did not even come to talk to us afterwards. His aftercare instructions were incorrect and full of typos. There are plenty of other specialists who care more about their patients than this slacker.

Based on my own recent personal experience, (July 2020), I cannot even begin to give Dr. Gregory Szych, a higher than absolutely terrible rating. I was hospitalized, in July, based on an extremely rare disorder, that most doctors, (including the medical staff at JMCGH), do not even know about, let alone understand, and one of the attending physicians, ordered an upper endoscopy, which took Dr. Szych, TWO DAYS, in order to finally perform, because he kept bumping me back and putting other patients, before me. Meanwhile, my symptoms, which included 24/7 nausea and vomiting, continued to erode my esophagus. After the procedure, he rudely awoke my by grabbing my left arm, and yelled: "WAKE UP!!!", which instantly initiated the nausea and vomiting, again. I have had several upper GI's done, over the years, and I have never been treated the way that I have been, by Dr. Szych, or other medical staff, at JMCGH. He asked me if I wanted him to speak with my husband, who was waiting in the waiting room, about my procedure, and I replied: "Yes". Soon after, I was wheeled back up to my room, where I fell back asleep, and waited for my husband to return, from speaking with Dr. Szych. About two hours later, the door to my room opened, and it was my husband, who had only returned to my room to get a phone charger to charge his cell phone, in the waiting room, because he still had not talked to Dr. Szych. He was shocked to find me resting in bed, and angered, that Dr. Szych, had left him waiting in the waiting room, for nearly 2 and a half, hours. We complained to the medical staff, but they just blew it off. It is now December, and I am considering filing a complaint against Dr. Szych, with West Tennessee Healthcare, for his lack of professional duty to provide care, and for not following up with pathology.

Has a bad bedside manner. Always makes me feel like I’m dying and never has any real answers. He doesn't like questions bc he very short or doesn’t answer at all. Current looking to replace him ASAP.

Made me feel very uncomfortable due to his rudeness. Very dismissive. He performed a colonoscopy and GI check. While laying on the table waiting for the procedures to begin a consent form for stretching my esophagus was given to me to sign.. this was never discussed or even briefly mentioned by him during my visit. When he entered the treatment room I tried to speak to him he didn't acknowledge me at all and just gave them the signal to put the mouth block into my mouth and put me to sleep. My bowel activity is not the same as before. I have no warning of a pending bowel movement, if a bathroom is not close I am in trouble.....let me be very clear here; this, was not the case before the procedure. This is a little embarrassing to say but I feel it is important, after a bowel movement and a thorough wiping; a little while later, I have to wipe again...not so before he performed the colonoscopy. Hope this information helps.

Dr. Szych is an excellent physician, however, his lack of regard for punctuality is a disgrace. He is never on time for scheduled procedures therefore leaving his patients, and their families waiting, sometimes for hours, for him to show up is extremely inconvenient. Even if you are his first case for a GI procedure (ex 9am) don't expect him to get to the hospital before 10am or after. A Colonoscopy/Endoscopy normally only takes 30 minutes or so unless there is an issue. So, you arrive two hours before your procedure, expect to be taken back, on time and it's pushing 11am before he's there and ready. Trust me when I say the patients time is as valuable as the doctor's. (Not to mention the patient has been up all night going thru the GI prep then throw in a little apprehension about the procedure itself). Come on Dr. Szych, get it together!
