Never answers the damn phone

I had what I'd consider to be an awful experience with one of the providers at Lakewood. Amy Winkles, PA-C. I was there to establish care as I just moved to Minnesota and wanted to inform her of where I was in the process of obtaining medications I needed, and to hopefully get a prescription for a preventative care test. Apparently, she had googled me and learned of an event in my past I'm not proud of, but which had absolutely nothing to do with why I was there. I barely got a few words in when she interrupted and questioned me about my past, and then only wanted to talk about that. I didn't feel comfortable at all. She didn't do any physical examination whatsoever, but later I read in MyChart that she had documented not hearing any gallops, friction rubs, or extra heart sounds on exam, among other things. Not sure if she has magical ears and can hear the absence of those heart sounds without using her stethoscope, but how shady. A provider can code and bill higher if she documents a physical exam, but she definitely did not do one. In the end, her note makes me out to sound like a drug seeker and she didn't even give me the prescription for the preventative care test I had asked for (Cologuard). Again, I wasn't there for any medication, just to establish care and to let her know the different specialists I had appointments with coming up and which ones I was still waiting to hear back from since family practice practitioners are typically the home-based, care coordinators. The patient-provider relationship is one that needs to be based on trust. Patients should be free, to be honest with providers without fear of judgment or being treated differently than others. I felt like she pre-judged me before walking into the room, evidenced by the fact she didn't even want to lay a stethoscope on me and didn't care about preventative tests I needed. Bias and judgment should be reserved for places outside of the exam room. Patients already feel vulnerable and we are there seeking help for one ailment or another. I think this is one provider that needs to be reminded the healing professions are supposed to be based on compassion and equal access to care. For the record, I am a PA myself, with over 15 years of practice, so I don't leave this review about a fellow PA lightly. I will not see this provider again, and I do hope she takes a lesson from this person she was so quick to judge that treating the person in front of you is much more helpful than feeling smug about some nonsense you think you uncovered by looking up someone's past before walking into the room. Lastly, I should add that I expressed my dissatisfaction with her and how she made me feel in a follow-up message to her through the MyChart app, hoping that she might reflect on the situation and I wouldn't be here leaving this review. She never even bothered to respond, and I gave her a week.
