Dr Nichols saved my life without the Nissan surgery I would have been diagnosed with throat cancer years ago. When I came to him they thought I already had Barrett's esophagus but luckily I didn't. After successful Nissan I have had minimal issues with acid reflux since 2008.

Good Morning Dr. Nichols ........ this is Alec Marshall I would recommend you in a second you are a top notch surgeon thank you for saving my life , I cant thank you enough Doc ............ and Dr. Tom you are also Top Notch I cant thank you guys enough, I have told everyone I know and I would recommend Mayo Clinic and you both anytime and if there is anything I can help you with consider it done . I totally trust you both and thank you for what you do everyday.

Dr. Nichols is an excellent doctor and surgeon. I had an esophagectomy performed last year by him that was very successful. I had stage 1b esophageal cancer. As mentioned by another reviewer, Dr. Nichols had me eating soft foods within 8 days of my surgery; had a feeding tube but did not need it once I was discharged at day 9. Recovery is always patient specific, but I had no surgery related problems and healed completely and quickly. Six month checkup, no cancer and back to my previous activity levels. Dr. Nichols was a God send and would recommend him to anyone. I must admit his confidence and outspoken manner was a little much for me at first but after some thought, I want a confident experienced surgeon when his hands are inside my chest. As a side note the Mayo Clinic also gets four stars for their care and pain management techniques.

Dr. Nichols is extremely professional and extremely good. In our home state, I was told that I was going to have complications from my esophagectomy. When I saw Dr. Nichols...and asked him what kind of complications I can expect...he asked, "What complications? There will be no complications cause it is going to be done correctly!"...and he was true to his word. I was told other places that I would be in the hospital for over two weeks and I would be on a feeding tube when I left. But under Dr. Nichols' care...I left on the 8th day after surgery and flew home the next day...and although I had a feeding tube...I didn't need it...I was already eating small amounts of food. I recommend this doctor to anyone who needs this kind of a doctor.

I had a tumor the size of a large grapefuit. It was cancer. Dr. Nichols removed my lung. I've been told by many other Doctors what an excellent job he did. I felt very secure in his hands. I am doing fine and have him to thank for saving my life.
