Dr. Schaff is very kind and caring. My procedure, apical myectomy and myocardial bridge unroofing improved my symptoms and quality of life. He and his team took such good care of me during and after surgery while I was in ICU. August 2022

I had surgery about 5 years ago. Dr.Hartzel Schaff is Tiger Woods and Micheal Jordon, but way more handsome, loving, and really knows how the heart works, the symptoms, conditions of practically every thing that has to do with the human heart. Today is the 7th anniversary of my septal myectomy (April 17, 2013). Dr. Schaff saved my life. I was undiagnosed for over 15 years until I was referred to another cardiologist who recommended The Mayo Clinic. I was 69 when I had the surgery and could barely walk 10 feet without extreme exhaustion, pain and frequent episodes of pre-syncope. I now walk 2-3 miles a day. My husband and I are very grateful for the expertise of Dr. Schaff and the wonderful experience at the Rochester Mayo Clinic.

I can't say enough about Dr Schaff. I know he saved my life. I had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It was a congenital heart defect that I didn't even know about. I talked with 2 other surgeon's, and was told I would need a mitral valve replacement and maybe an Aortic valve if they damaged it during surgery. Dr Schaff didn't even want to discuss that with me because he said it wouldn't be necessary. The septal Myoctomy was a complete success, with no valve replacements! I was even able to go off 1 heart medication . Dr Schaff also has a very good bedside manner. He answered all my questions in terms I could understand. He even came to my room on a Sunday morning to tell me GoodBye and wish me well. I would definitely recommend him!

He and his staff are so friendly, have a sense of compassion and humor. However they’re also very willing to explain whatever you don’t understand. ???????? I’m currently at week 9 of recovery and am in cardiac rehab. I can’t thank them enough for helping me get my life back.
