The most disinterested, unresponsive, supercilious of them all. Do not waste your time or money.

Aweful...We were recommended to Dr. Butterfield for our daughter that has HaT (hereditary alpha tryptasemia). He was not interested in hearing anything, told us to up our kids medication and go for a month, then she had a flare up a week later then totally dismissed her and said he doesn't think he is her doctor for this. Definitely NOT interested in patient care or even gives any care or lack of interest to his patients whatsoever. I will NEVER recommend anyone go to him if you care about your or your families health. You will get nowhere! Very disappointed in him and Mayo Clinic. First off he gave my kid her diagnosis, then we were told they cant see pediatric patients, come to find out they CAN see them they are just told to say they can't (per the lady on the phone) so this put us back several months in treatment. Then he finally sees her, is rude and tells us to try something for a month, and after a week says he doesn't think he fits her? Not for us!

Absolutely Awful - arrogant, self righteous, inflated ego ++++. The patient is not his first priority that much is clear.

Didn't even test me for what I asked, though said he had. Went to another doctor, he tested me and I have the illness I asked Dr. Butterfield to test for. He set me years behind on getting a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Very impressed, he listened and asked questions for our issue. He seemed to be really concerned to get to the bottom of the issues that I have fighting for the last three years.

Hurtful and uncaring to patients. Would not recommend.

I am coming up on my second appointment with Dr. Butterfield, glad I did not read some of the reviews, one of which is repeated on several sites. I had been to the Boston Clinic with Dr. Castells, who I liked, but Dr. Butterfield was able tofigure out what was wrong with me and ordreed teh appropriate tests. He may not be the most entertaining fellow, but he knows his stuff, if you sit down long enough to listen to him and don't go in with an agenda, or a background of information which in my case was totally innaccurate. I had been chasing this part of my medical tail for years, and within one visit, he was able to undo years of B. S. that I had been handed. I wish he had been the first one I saw. I I found him engaged, and contrary to at least one reviewer quite caring. One appointment! He also followed up by letter after he recieved the results of my lab test that he had ordered. He also followed up with my doctor and was willing to work with me. I went to him, not to confirm what others had already told me, but to get a fresh view based on his experience, not mine. I am glad that I did not attempt to drown him in a pile of paperwork. He was referred by the endocrinologist in spite of my complete work up at Boston, and I am glad I went, the diagnosis should have been made at Boston. I am glad I did not give up. I found him to be a bit shy, but quite capable.

I wish I had seen Dr. Butterfield years ago. I had been run through the mill with a vast array of symptoms looking like mastocytosis. I had evendrug myself accross an ocean to the Boston Clinic, where unfortunately they came up with shrugged shoulders, not for lack of trying. He is a bit shy, but is incredibly knowledgeable. I had been referred by an endocrinologist, who was also baffled by my array of symptoms. I let him work his magic, and let him ask the questions, and within one visit, (and a rare disorder), he pinpointed the disease by ordering one test, which not one doctor prior had even considered ordering. The test came back, he wrote me a letter and asked my GP to order three more, and I have drug myself back accross the ocean and half the continent to see him AGAIN. One appointment was all it took, after much of my adult life of bieng dismissed as simply getting old, or HOrmonal, this guy NAILED it! If you have your own agenda and years of mismanagement that you have swallowed, donT see him. If you want a new fresh set of eyes, and ears, see this man, I would recomend him to see any of my family or friends. His area of expertise is complicated, and full of pitfalls. I see him tomorrow again and he will be hearing my praises. NOt everyone might be able to get the one trip diagnosis, but my disorder is rare! He found it when no one else could. My general GP was embarrassed when he heard that this guy figured it out in one appointment. He too is now a true believer and is looking forward to hearing about my appointment tomorrow. Grateful from the middle of the Pacific!

Dr. Butterfield is incompetent, rude, and he lacks any compassion at all. His ego is falsely inflated and he appears to enjoy making a devastating illness even more impossible to deal with, by refusing to consult with other doctors and by refusing to direct any patient care, even during multiple acute reactions while already admitted to the hospital. He has succeeded at frustrating and infuriating some of his own colleagues, my nurse care coordinator, my primary care physician, and my emergency care physicians. His intelligence and his bedside manner are beyond disgusting, to say the least. Many of the patients who receive care from Dr Butterfield rely on his treatment to keep them alive. Dr Butterfield realizes the importance of his decisions regarding patient care, and yet he still makes the choice to fail at providing adequate care. The fact that he is still practicing medicine is absolutely appalling. If Doctor Butterfield determines that your particular symptoms/diagnosis are too difficult for him to figure out or manage, he will simply refuse to provide care. You will be at his mercy, while he gets his kicks from playing God with your life. I would advise you to go and see ANY other allergic disease specialist other than Dr Butterfield....even if they have a lot less experience. Dr. Butterfield is, by far, the worst physician I have ever encountered....and I've seen some awful ones. If I could give a rating of zero stars, I would.

Mr. Butterfield is one of the most competent doctors I have had the pleasure to deal with. His experience in the field of medicine is self-evident as he gets straight to the point with diagnosis and treatment options. I am honored to have been seen and taken care of by this doctor and his prompt, professional courtesy.
