Lovely person - but has favorit topics and if your condition is not one of them - tends not to listen

I came to meet Dr Scalcini through my friend with MS. She has been in practice well over 45 years. Published research in areas of infectious disease. A diplomate, board certified in internal medicine. An alumni house named for her in honor of her contributions at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital. Trained in Italy. Graduated Summa Cum Laude. She is one versed not only in the science but the art of medicine. Has the temperament of an Italian and an artist. Demanding. Yes cranky as some have described yet this is consistent with a perfectionist. Uncompromising in the quality of medicine she has practiced. Insistent that her patients pursue their health in the same manner. At a tertiary care center as Mayo this is precisely what is needed. A huge compassionate heart tempered by reason. She has warmth, understanding yet an expectation that her patients do not allow themselves to not do what is best for their conditions. Impatient. Fiery. She studies you when she looks at you. Goes out of her way to problem solve, make suggestions, informed consultations. Takes a serious interest in the welfare and well being of her patients. That takes time and energy. Is she busy, sometimes late? Yes. The same time she takes with you she takes with others. A natural teacher. Difficult to understand? Maybe at first. But you get used to her cadence, her accent, her patterns. Accomodating. Brilliant. Attempts to expedite appts and procedures when it's possible. A tremendous primary physician. A tremendous ally in the fight for health against illness and debility.

Amazing service. She spent 2.5 hrs with us and referred us to 4 different specialists for further testing due to my sisters complex health situation. She was extremely knowledgable and very direct. My sister has been in and out of the hospital 20 times in last 18 months and we have never experienced this level of care and attention. Fabulous service and amazing knowledge. We are so thankful to have experienced this level of experience and follow up. Thank you to the nth degree!!!

Cranky old woman. Probably mildly senile. If you are scheduled to see her... ask for someone else!

Dr Scalcini is the best doctor I have ever seen. She is thorough, an attentive listener, explains everything and you never feel rushed. I wish my local doctors were as concerned about my well being. She is truly an amazing physician and a wonderful, caring and thoughtful human being !! Mayo Clinic is fortunate to have her on staff. Thank you for being such a compassionate Doctor!

Worst experience. Old cranky lady, very hyperactive, doesn not listen properly, always in a rush, always late, no follow up, no response to questions, ignores stuff she does not want to answer. In a hurry to finish with patients. Does not analyze nor provide any solution. Good at administrative task of sending you to different specialists and getting information from them. But clearly lacks the ability to put it all together and come up with a comprehensive plan and accurate diagnosis. Seems lost as is very busy and never follows up. Very difficult lady, strong headed and non empathetic.

Worst medical experience of my life. Very disappointed in quality of Mayo doctor.

I was having complex medical problems and had an extensive work-up with my regular doctors. She really took alot of time to review my case with me and discuss options which I really appreciated. Very complete history and examination. Excellent!

Very professional but with sincere warmth, concern and interest in her patient.

When you are sick you want someone to care about you and that is just what Dr.Scalcini does. She is Great!
