List of Matthew T Houdek's Reviews
My health concerns were not being taken seriously in my local area. I had a large mass in my thigh which was causing difficult symptoms. Dr Houdek explained the situation, performed the surgery, then gave me a detailed description of the operation. The surgery was a great success. I had another orthopedic issue, Dr Houdek knew what the problem was and referred me to another specialist. The Mayo Clinic nurses, other professionals, and staff treated me well and with kindness.
Dr. Houdek did an amazing surgery for my husband. My husband had atypical lipoma on left thigh. This tumor was not only big, but also grew through the sciatic nerve, which made surgery more difficult and risky without hurting the sciatic nerve. But Dr. Houdek removed tumor successfully and also protected nerve perfectly. My husband recovered very fast. Dr. Houdek’s care team did wonderful job as well, Nurse Sheri Merten is so professional, caring and nice.
I am a 25-year-old male that was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in my right pelvis on 7/1/2020 based on an MRI, as both of my biopsies were contaminated before they could do a confirmation test. I visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN at the end of July 2020 to meet with a sarcoma team. Dr. Houdek came into the room talking to his nurse about my files and asking her to go get more information for him. Then he kept asking where the post-operative report for my most recent biopsy was. Even with all the missing information, the conclusion that he came to was that my leg needed to be amputated. He said that amputation was clearly the best option that gives me the best chance of survival. On 1/22/2021 I had an Internal Hemipelvectomy with a full replacement of the hip performed by Dr. Lin at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. All of the tumor was able to be removed and the tumor was 100% dead when it was tested. So be wary if Dr. Houdek tells you that amputation is the only option.
Very good experience overall, would recommend.
Dr. Houdek is an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and skilled surgeon. He performed a very technical surgery, replacing my Dad's entire humerus bone with a cadaver bone due to a rare form of sarcoma. The surgery was a success, relieving him of severe pain. Dr. Houdek sat with our family during tough times making it clear to us how much he is invested in his patients and their families. We drove 8 hours to see Dr. Houdek at the Mayo Clinic and only wish we had found him sooner as he is the best of the best.
If you want your cancer out this is who you need to see. Saved my leg too.
A wonderful member of an amazing team! Hope I don’t have to come back for surgery again but if I did I would choose Mayo.
Great experience with this surgeon. Knows what he is talking about and explains it in a way I could understand. Had my safety and quality of life in mind every step of the way.
Wonderful and caring surgeon!!
Very unprofessional and uncaring about patient. Obviously did not read patient file prior to scheduling. Refused the service that was promised and scheduled after patient had traveled a great distance. Inconsiderate of family and patient.. Did not follow hipa talked in front of people he did not know without asking patient if it was ok. Also disrespected the opinions of other healthcare providers that had seen the patient. Said their findings did not matter because they were not from Mayo.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
