List of MIchelle J. Clarke's Reviews
Multiple surgical procedures performed by Dr. Clarke have improved my quality of life tremendously! Her entire team is world class!
After being a RN in health care for the last 10 years and being a patient of this provider in consult, she has no empathy, understanding or simple respect for her patients. I left the Mayo Clinic building in tears to drive back home 4 hours, sick to my stomach. I had very concerning frightening MRI results that I wanted an expert in the field to give an opinion and provide treatment if indicated. Instead she berated myself and husband in office saying, “you’ve crossed state lines to see me for this, and not sure what you want me to do, I’d do nothing.” Also mentioning, “you could see all the providers in this group and no one will bite.” To provide an update, to the public reading this message, I had seen an expert close to home after this visit, recommending surgery and after the procedure/surgery stated you couldn’t have got by without the surgery. Injections or further PT would of been of detriment putting further compression on cord. She didn’t provide order for injections surgery or anything. Said to return home to get the orders. I certainly hope admin of Mayo Clinic will see this message to further discuss with this provider her actions and behavior, and to avoid another patient having a similar experience. Thank you Dr Clarke for the care you didn’t provide, but am thankful I’m feeling nearly 100% better.
Clarke is down to earth neurosurgeon . Nothing like the other doctor. She actually cares about your problem, plus a good listener. This was my second surgery with her. I would definitely recommend her. Thank you for fixing my neck.
Dr. Clarke is excellent! My husband has debilitating hereditary Schwannoma tumors on his spine. Most doctors wouldn't touch him because his are intradural tumors and complicated to remove without cutting nerves and causing permanent disabilities. She successfully dissected his tumors alleviating his crippling pain, allowing him to come off the gabapentin, and he is back to work. These tumors are hereditary so he has multiple family members who have these also. We traveled from Iowa to see her. His sister traveled from ND for 2 suscessful surgeries, his Aunt from ND, and his uncle from Las Vegas NV. She is the only Neurosurgeon they will trust for this delicate surgery for these complicated Schwannoma tumors. She is exceptionally talented and straight forward at the bedside. I would not recommend anyone else.
Dr. Clarke saved me from getting paralyzed by performing a very complicated spinal surgery. She is very humble, knowledgeable and humane. She was a blessing to me and I believe she has been to many. Organizing a team of doctors for the surgery in the shortest time possible she made my surgery possible.
Dr. Clarke had a plan for my husband's spine surgery before we even saw her. He was shocked at what needed to be done but agreed and within two weeks had surgery. Everything she told him was accurate and expected. Whenever we had questions they were answered promptly. It was a tough summer not being able to golf but he could hardly walk 5 holes on the course prior to surgery. We went for pedicures and he now has more feeling in his feet than he has had in the past 35 + years. It is fun to see him get excited about having ticklish feet. It has been a process in recovery but all that she told us has happened and he continues to do very well. Thank you!
My husband had a spinal fusion 35+ years after having a spinal tumor removed. He couldn't walk on the golf course, his legs went numb standing for more than a minute or two, and couldn't hold our grandson while standing. 2 weeks after our consult he had surgery. He missed a whole summer golfing (his passion during the summer) but is back swinging his clubs better than ever a year later! He has feeling in his feet that was absent for 35+ years. Her consult was direct and liked the candidness.
Dr. Clarke was absolutely amazing and so very knowledgeable about my condition. I was diagnosed with a spinal chord tumor between my L2 and L3 in August of 2017. I first saw two Nureosurgeons in the KC area that wanted to do surgery right away and would need two surgeries to remove my tumor. What??? So, I reached out to The Mayo Clinic. I was then scheduled to see Dr. Clarke two weeks later. From our first visit in Sept., Dr. Clarke made me feel confident that everything would be okay and I would only need 1 surgery. We put a plan together and Dr Clarke allowed me some time to digest the information and make a decision I was comfortable with. After a few days, I planned my surgery to remove my tumor on Nov 21st, 2017. Everything went better than expected. The tumor was a Schwannoma and benign. Hallelujah! Dr. Clarke was able to remove my tumor, and was also able to minimize the amount of fusion I would have to have. Going in to surgery there was a possibility of a 3 level fusion and when I woke, they only had to do a one level. Praise God! Dr. Clarke and her Nurse Cheryl are very quick to respond to my numerous questions and requests. The Mayo Clinic and Dr. Clarke are top notch! The entire surgical team was so comforting and reassuring without giving me false hope. I was well aware of my risks and outcomes. However, I knew that Dr. Clarke and her team would give me every chance of makeing a full recovery and the chance to live a normal life. I feel blessed to have found Dr. Clarke.
Rockstar surgeon, brilliant! Amazing care, highly recommend. She surgically repaired my lower spine following treatment for metastatic breast cancer tumor. Back to exercising—no pain, no complications. I believe that those who had complications were either highly inactive and overweight or they did not listen to their doctor very well.
Horrible bedside manor and very uncaring. Once your initial procedure is complete, if any complications arise, they don't want their record tarnished.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
