Shawn W. O'driscoll's Online Review Report Card

Thank you Dr. O’Driscoll for giving me back a useful left arm. After being walked by at least ten surgeons over the last five years, one gave us your name saying, “The only person in the USA who might be able to help you is Dr. O’Driscoll at The Mayo Clinic. He got that right!

I am not entirely sure how a doctor of his caliber only has 1 other review. Not surprisingly it is a 5 star review. Dr. O'Driscoll is one of only a handful of humans on this planet who can do what he does with the elbow. And he probably taught the other 4 how to do it. I had 2 other surgeries by a local doctor in Houston on my right elbow which only marginally helped my locked right elbow. I saw 2 other elbow surgeons in addition to the one who did my surgeries. One of the other 2 consults I had (an elbow surgeon himself) told me about Dr. Driscoll. He referred to him as 'Driscoll at Mayo.' It was a reference made in passing that he was about the only person on the planet that could even perform what I was looking for. I was looking for a surgeon to clean up my elbow so it actually works like an elbow is supposed to work without cutting it wide open with a non arthroscopic surgery. Apparently this is way easier said than done. Long story short, I went to see Dr. O'Driscoll and sure enough he thought he could restore my elbow function. So that is exactly what he did. It has now been 6 years since that surgery. I am also a healthcare provider and have referred a handful to patients to Dr. O'Driscoll and he was able to restore their elbows as well. Not to mention, Dr. O'Driscoll is one of the kindest and most humble men I have ever met, that is why I am shocked to only see 1 other 5 star review. If you have a severe elbow problem and you have the opportunity to be cared for by Dr. O'Driscoll, you will be in the presence of one of the greatest doctors to have practiced medicine. I am confident if he cannot help your elbow, I don't think anyone else could either.

Shoulder replacement t surgery in August, 2020. Dr. O'Driscoll was /is thorough, informative, and highly skilled. Surgery seemed like a piece of cake!

He was an amazing doctor. He has great bedside manners. He did an awesome job on my upper right arm for surgery back in April of 1998.

This doctor doesn’t listen and gets offended whenever questioned. I Had an elbow surgery and ended up much worse than when I went in. The doctor doesn’t accept any responsibility and I’m really struggling to get this addressed. He is completely rude, unsympathetic and has absolutely no compassion. I would definitely not recommend this doctor to anyone.

Awful. Do not let the credentials and other reviews fool you. I’m sure he’s impressive to others but just because he sounds smart, doesn’t mean he is. He’s very into himself and frankly needs to retire. But we are all entitled to our opinions so I’m sure others have had positive experiences which is great but unfortunately I didn’t have one of those positive experiences.

Unfortunately yes he does have the credentials and appears smart based on that and he seems to pat himself on the back but he needs to take a course in listening instead of just assuming. He needs to retire. He needs to admit that.

Dr. O'Driscoll is not only an expert in his field he is also determined to understand each individual case. He doesn't only look at film to determine how to proceed he also listens to his patients, spends ample amount of time manipulating the area and analyzing it. He is excellent at explaining his plan and involves the patient in the decision. Even more impressive, in our case, he followed up with former patients that had similar surgeries to validate his decision! Beyond impressed!
