List of Andrew L. Schakel's Reviews
I would highly recommend Dr.Schakel for pain management. I have been a patient of his for about 10 years and am satisfied with my care that I receive. Living with dystonia has been challenging to say the least but I am so thankful for Dr.Schakel and his team being there for me over the years. They are there for me to answer my questions or just there as caring healthcare providers. Many thank you’s to his team.
i saw dr andrew schakel for years. i was refered after i moved to the twin cities. I never felt heard. he took me off of my effective meds to put me on harsher have to take 4 times a day medicines that didnt work as well (im not talking pain pills just other meds) when i complained about the various harsh side effects i was experiencing he ignored me and told me to keep taking it. when i asked why he switched me he got angry so i kept taking it. when i decided to have a baby i told him i needed to be weaned off the many meds i was on for the safety of the child. he became upset and told me it would be better if i kept taking the meds and reported any side effects that my child experienced. i dont know whether or not he gets compensation for the meds the prescribes but this made me question. when i told him i was done with seeing him i dont agree with that he told me he was going to put something in my records to warn other drs....I just wanted to be a mom. i wish i had never seen dr schakel. horrible bedside manner, uncaring and I left many appt feeling unheard and unfairly treated.i feel i was actually set back in my pain management.
Dr Schakel was very professional and I’ve been out of pain for almost 2 years after he gave me injections for lower back pain. I highly recommend him for pain management.
Dr. Schakel is a wonderful provider. He has called me at home personally to make sure I get questions answered and get my care in a timely way. He has helped me with my pain when no one else could
I was referred to Dr. Schakel by another doctor when my pain became more complex. In the 1.5 years I've been working with him, I still don't feel heard. When you don't fit directly into the mold he feels you and your chronic pain should be in, he writes you off to PT or pain therapy. I've never felt truly heard by Dr. Schakel. I've had numerous injections with him and, he doesn't come see you after. He also leaves it to his nurses to deliver all his messages - including when he is basically giving up on you. He injects and thats it. All this does is leave you feeling hopeless as a chronic pain patient because you feel like he is giving up on you. Run the other direction, don't end up like me.

Dr. Schakel was really personable and knowledgeable. He has a decent sense of humor and his staff speak very highly of him.
What I was hoping for. Professional, yet caring , listened.
Did not indicate procedure would be painful. Was excurciating. He left room following procedure without communicating with me.
He has no empathy, he did injection without waiting for numbing med to start working my leg jumped off table in so much pain I was sobbing, when done he didn't even ask how I was doing nor seemed to care left the room on to next patient. If you value your care or your loved ones see another doctor. For pain doctor he has no empathy or bedside manner what so ever.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
