Best surgeon! He saved my vision

He gives me a shot every month and has saved my sight. Very professional and empathetic

One star is too many for Athanasios Papakostas, given the horrible treatment received from him. He has absolutely no patience, and becomes irritated and nasty without provocation, including while jabbing a needle into my eye! Could you imagine getting an eye injection before the numbing medicine kicked in, or without sufficient numbing? Papakostas was so rushed and reckless that I felt the full impact of the needle, causing my eyeball to jump, swell and turn blood red, followed by excruciating pain, trauma and excessive hemorrhaging for over 2 weeks! The eye continues to hurt over 3 months later. Papakostas is an egomaniac and does not believe it's his job to perform the vital pressure test or any topical eye exam, leaving this to technicians--which is not why you see a retina specialist. After 3 injections, including the botched one, he considered my treatment over(!), even though my serious retinal vein occlusion and visual obstruction conditions had not gotten better. Although I'm old enough to be his father, Papakostas showed me no respect, treated me like dirt, and had zero regard for my care or well-being. Adding insult to injury, he then falsified the medical record in an effort to smear me for complaining about his misconduct--of course, covering up the botched injection, and the fact he hurt me due to his carelessness. Dogs deserve better treatment than the manner in which this guy handles patients, leaving me to suffer.

Terrible, Uncaring Doctor! Words alone cannot describe the horrible treatment received from Dr. Papakostas. He has absolutely no patience, and becomes irritated and nasty without provocation, once, while jabbing a needle into my eye! Papakostas was so rushed and reckless that I felt the full impact of the needle, causing my eyeball to jump, swell and turn blood red, followed by excruciating pain, trauma and excessive hemorrhaging for over 2 weeks! Could you imagine getting a needle injection in your eye that was so rushed and unprofessionally given that the anesthesia/numbing medication never had time to take effect--causing you to feel the full impact and excruciating PAIN of the needle as it was jabbed into your eye? That's the horrible experience you can expect to have, as I did, with Dr. Athanasios Papakostas! If that weren't bad enough, Dr. Papakostas proceeded to insult me as I was writhing in pain, claiming that most patients "don't need that much" anesthesia! Really? My eyeball jumped and was blood red for a week from the trauma, and continues to hurt and throb days later. Papakostas is extremely egotistical and moody, and believes he is superior to everyone else, especially the lowly patient. On this particular day, he was in a foul mood, and said just before he performed the botched injection that this would be the last treatment--even though I still had the vision obstruction problem I came in with two months earlier! Papakostas tries to delegate everything out to technicians, including the important eye pressure test, which his assistant promised he would perform himself, but he never did on my last two visits. Adding insult to injury, literally, Papakostas omitted vital information from the medical record and exam report, including my clear description of the symptoms I was having that caused my vision to be obstructed, to falsely make it appear as though there was no longer any problem! There was never any apology given for the botched, excruciatingly painful injection, nor would Papakostas even call me back afterwards. Honestly, hamburgers on an assembly line at McDonald's are given more care and respect than Dr. Papakostas is willing to give a patient. In my case, I was treated by this man as if I were a piece of dirt! If you want a caring, professional, trustworthy retina ophthalmology specialist, be advised to go elsewhere.
