The billings department deserves an award for how outstandingly incompetent they are at their jobs. It took months of phone tag with numerous billings department employees, collection agencies being contacted when they weren't supposed to and calls to insurance before I could reach someone competent enough to explain to me why I was being billed and not my insurance. My insurance was not checked before sending my child to an outpatient facility that didn't take my insurance and I am left having to fix someone else's mistakes. I am in the process of having insurance take care of it and was sent to collections AGAIN. This all would have been avoided if the person had done their job correctly and sent me to a facility that actually took my insurance. Avoid this hospital at all costs. The ER staff themselves were nice enough, but the headache of dealing with this place will last for months.
Great hospital very caring nursing and doctors
After 30+ years of being a patient here I am done. The referral department sent me somewhere that doesn't take my insurance. They also accused me of just being fat for years while I was being undiagnosed with PCOS. Mercy does not practice humanist bedside manner. Just start going to a different hospital that practices caring for patients instead of how much money they can get. Mercy, quite literally, is becoming just as bad as DePaul
Mercy West is apparently short on nurses (I realize this is a nationwide concern). The cleanliness was a concern - blood on the floors of the hallways that weren't cleaned in days. I had staph and MRSA infection and they didn't isolate me. One night nurse forgot to give me my antibiotics which sent me in to another fever and I felt like I was going to die. The same nurse wore a CLOTH mask two days in a row. Another night nurse complained about having to work. And then a different night nurse asked ME if I could take two medications together. Unreal. Mercy West - please get it together. Pay your nurses and get the best. Stop paying for travel nurses - and pay the ones in your own community. I hope the first couple of nurses in the ER stay for your sake - they treated me with absolute kindness and care. This was such a horrible and scary experience. I thank god for the infectious disease doctor and the hospital doctors that were there - I'm alive because of them.
Nurses are rude and ignorant. Politeness, manners and empathy should be required to be a nurse. Especially the ones in ER/trauma. They left my client in ER department for 2 days. Didn’t do personal care, sent her home with pressure ulcers and her tongue had a hard crust on it from them not swabbing her mouth. The quality of healthcare has declined everywhere but a hospital, no way.
my care, for the most part, was good at mercy. i had issues with the billing. i got over-billed for 2 separate charges and they were only willing to address one charge. everyone i talked to was friendly, but we can’t afford to visit a hospital and be billed exorbitant amounts later.
Mercy ER is the worst. Literally have been sitting here for 4 hours. So many people are here needing help and not receiving it. It’s really sad
I was in the ER from January 11-12 and was moved to the fourth floor of the main hospital (room 4361) through January 13. I had seen many nurses and staff throughout my time there and I have to say Keslee (from the fourth floor) was amazing. She was super sweet, very attentive, and brought a positive attitude. I hope Keslee sees this and knows that I truly appreciated her!
The nurses and doctors here and all the staff and volunteers are absolutely amazing! A special shout-out to the nurses in the burn unit and the playroom! You guys made our stay so much easier and you all were so helpful and so kind! Thank you!!
Was pretty fast brought x-ray machine to my room nothing was broken or out of place

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
