After a traumatic birth in a different hospital with my first child, the anxiety I felt during this second (more difficult) pregnancy was high. Dr. Mayabb at every visit would lower my fears with unlimited answers to every question that my husband and I always had an abundance of. When I was 7cm dilated with no active labor on site, she heard and listened to my concerns and treated this desperate pregnant woman not as an annoyance, but as a real person. Once in the hospital, I went to 9cm, but my contractions were slowing. She manually broke my waters, where she found that my daughter’s umbilical cord had not only wrapped twice around her neck and was causing hypoxia, but the cord had also prolapsed. She had held everything together (literally) and called for the other professionals to prep the OR for an emergency C-section as this was very dangerous. But even with that preparation, this superwoman coached me through everything, to push with an epidural and without contractions; something that I equivalate to being verbally guided across a rope while blindfolded. I trusted this doctor so much that not once did I have any doubt, hesitation or fear. Within 6 minutes, my daughter was out, and with some heat and oxygen, bright pink and letting us hear her lungs in function. This kind of trust and unshakeable dependability is all anyone wants in a medical professional, especial one that holds the life of both you and child quite literally in their hands. I don’t want to say she is one-of-a-kind, because I want to have faith that there’s more amazing doctors like her out there, but for my family, she will be the one and only OB for years. A true superhero.
