He is amazing!!! The best surgeon!!!
Excellent, caring and compassionate. Dr. Swenson explained things well and he and his nurse, Melody, helped me though a difficult afternoon. Highly recommend this doctor. Thank you.
On May 3, 2021 I went in for minor surgery at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Prior to surgery, a very pleasant nurse came into my room to verify my personal information. She was entering data into a computer on the other side of the room. It was difficult to hear her and I had to ask her to repeat several times, but she was patient and polite! I anticipated and expected my surgeon, (Dr. Brian Swenson) would visit with me in the room regarding the procedure prior to surgery. I thought this was a mandate that he re-examine me to insure nothing had changed regarding his prior diagnosis and course of action for treatment. Instead, Dr. Swenson placed a PHONE CALL to my room as his pre-surgery examination. He never physically came to my room for examination and consultation. (The nurse verifying my personal information on the computer, indicated that he had been doing that a lot lately instead of visiting the patients face to face.) During the CALL I asked him questions about the procedure. The more we spoke, (which was less than 3 min) the more he became put-off that I had any questions and concerns. His tone became sarcastic and patronizing saying, Is there anything else I NEED TO DO for you? I asked about him following up with my designated care giver in the waiting room following surgery. He, ( Dr. Swenson) assured me he would let her know how it went. Well, he did! He PHONED her in the waiting room and spoke with her over the phone! How IMPERSONAL can you be? How is this behavior acceptable with Hospital standards? How can Mercy provide proper care for their patients when you can t consult face to face with the person who will be in charge of your care and safety during a surgical procedure? How can you properly evaluate and examine a patient thru the phone? How can they allow their surgeons to literally PHONE IT IN? The surgery was sloppy and left deep abrasions. It s been over a month and I m still not healed.
Had a surgery with him. He was supposed to work on a certain area but instead didn't. His nurse is incompetent. She was combative and difficult to get along with. She was also supposed to remove my stitches, but didn't get them all. Because of this I've never healed and it's now going on 2 years later. Run far away from this office and Doctor.
He left me with no personal communications for 9 days after he had completed a surgery for something I thought was routine, he then he called my son and told him I had cancer. He never spoke with me until 9 days later. When i did meet with him he spent a total of 6 minutes laying out a plan that was life changing with no options and without my input. He is Arrogant and worst communication skills ever!
Provided life saving surgery and care for my spouse. Very passionate physician when it comes to medicine and valuing a patient choices regarding their wishes.
prompt and appropriate attention to an emergency
I have had 2 surgeries with Dr. Swenson and he is absolutely amazing. So kind and informative. Never makes you feel rushed or that he doesn t care. I always felt safe and knew he was going to do his best.
Dr. Swenson moved quickly when I was in an agonizing emergency, although it wasn't life-threatening. He was respectful and pleasant, and clearly explained the available options. He got me into surgery within a few days, and explained what kind of further care I needed. Referred me to an outstanding physical therapist. I'm grateful to know there are doctors like him.
My husband needed surgery. We met with a few surgeons before finding Dr. Swenson. My husband and I both knew right away, Dr. Swenson would be the one to help us back where he needed to be. He was patient, understanding, honest and explained everything. My husband is in the process of making a full recovery from colorectal cancer. Felt confident in him after first appointment. Amazing doctor, in every aspect.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
