List of Don D. Sponenberg's Reviews
We have been blessed to have Dr. Sponenberg, for our 2 granddaughters. Each has a medical issue, that he has monitored. He is kind, caring and very knowledgeable. Explains the treatment, so I can understand what is needed. My girls are comfortable with him and like him! He talks to them, not at them!
I just left my autistic son s appointment with Dr. Sponenberg and we will never be back. He has absolutely no patience for frightened children. Horrible bedside manner.
Doctor who really cares about finding a good solution for your kid. Worked very hard with us with both our kids, and I couldn't ask for more.
We would give absolutely no stars if possible. We ve seen This doctor two times, when our regular pediatrician has been unavailable and both times were awful. The first visit was in May of 2021 for my four year old daughter who had a UTI. She began showing signs of UTI on vacation in Texas, we took her to a clinic there where they confirmed she had a UTI and prescribed antibiotics and for us to follow up with out doctor. When we made it back to Missouri I called to sit an appointment up with our normal pediatrician and she was on vacation so they gave us an appointment with Dr. Sponenberg. During the visit he pulled my daughters pants down without first asking her or informing anyone he was going to do so. I had to step between him and my four year old and explain to her why this was happening during her exam and ask her if it was ok beforehand since he had failed to do so. Terrible bedside manner. Then he tried to tell us she did not have a UTI when she had already been urine tested in Texas and received lab results back (which I had brought the paperwork to the visit). We left and I just kept giving her the antibiotics until the prescription was up and she was fine. Then this year (January 2022) we needed our son seen for illness and our regular pediatrician has left Mercy for a new job so we were scheduled with Dr. Sponenberg again, I was hoping this visit would be better. My 7 month old had been running a fever between 102.7 and 104.0 with meds, cough, congestion, loud breathing, vomiting, loss of appetite, changes in skin color and behavior. We brought him in and I requested during the visit that he be tested for flu, and covid. Dr. Sponenberg did not want to run ANY tests on my baby. I don t believe it is covid he has no respiratory symptoms , I had to argue with this man for my son to atleast be tested for the flu. The flu results came back negative and Dr. Sponenberg informed us smuggly of the results. There was a point in the visit that he literally told me to stop talking and then talked over me when I was describing my sons loss of appetite compared to what he normally takes in formula and breast milk. We went to republic family medical where our concerns about our baby were listened to and he was tested for covid, his results came back positive.
Sponenberg greatly needs an acute psychological review in order to continue medical practice. Extremely knowledgeable as he is, his mind simply does not process observations correctly as it did in his younger days. Allowing him to continue medical practice is simply endangering the well being of family and child.
Don Sponenberg is excellent! His care for his children and is knowledge to care for them is top notch! I trust this man with everything! We have been with him coming up on 18 years and all of my nieces and nephews see him as well! Wouldn’t trust anyone else!
So today I was running late for a doctor's apt. My map took me to the back of the building for some reason. I parked, jumped out and ran to my doctors apt. When I came back to my car I was blocked in by Dr.Sponenberg with his big white Cadillac suv. He parked directly behind me not even in a parking spot, sticking out in the parking lot. I luckily wiggled out.. gosh I totally made a mistake and never even saw the plaque with his name on it. But he seems super rude to do that. So all the bad manner reviews make sense.
Dr. Sponenberg is a wonderful doctor and a kind man.
He s been our only children s doctor since they were all born. Our 4 children now are ages 13-3 years old. We ve never had any issues with him. Anytime we ve needed him at short notice, he s been there for us. We couldn t be any happier with him. I will say, he s set in his own ways. But I like that about him. He can be firm with kids but I like that too. Firm meaning no acting out crazy. Kids need to understand there s a place for being goofy . A doctors office isn t that place. When I had my first kiddo. I was having issues out of my right leg. It was 2x s the size of my left leg. He asked how I was after having my daughter! I told him about my leg, he took a look at both of them. Made a fast call, finished checking out my daughter and sent me straight to the hospital. Before I left his office. He insisted I leave my baby in his care, So I did just that. He told me where to go at the hospital. I was checked out, no waiting around. I also wasn t billed for it. He took the time out and also seen to it, I was well taken care of. I thank him for his hospitality and his staff are absolutely the best women to be around. Again Thank you Dr. Sponenburg for just being you.
Really bad beside manners. As brand new parents we felt like we were getting yelled at. Found a new pediatrician immediately. Night and day difference.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
