List of Richard T Shimizu's Reviews
Since covid started, Richard doesn't want to see sick patients. He requires you to go a pharmacy and take a flu and covid test before he will consider seeing you. I'm not sure why he's a PCP if he doesn't want to be around sick people.
I was a patient of Dr. Shimizu for a short time last year. I had been dealing with a very painful illness for 7 months upon seeing him. He spent 3 months referring me to specialists that denied his referrals due to them not dealing with the issue at hand or not finding anything that deemed their specialty a needed service in my case. He even sent me to the competing hospital to try to get them to see me. I recommended my own findings and was harshly shot down by Dr. Shimizu, told I was wrong, that he had been doing this for 20 years, and if I didn't like it to find a new doctor. I did exactly that after attempting to commit suicide due to this incident and the new doctor has found that I do indeed have exactly what I had recommended. Visits with this Dr were very quick and cold, almost as if he were to retire tomorrow and didn't care. I cannot recommend this doctor and formal complaints are currently being filed with the Missouri Board of Medicine.
Excellent Dr, takes time to listen, explains things in simple to understand language. Great diagnostician with a deep bar of knowledge.
Was very thorough, asking lots of questions about my history. Took time to go over my concerns and answered all my questions. Such a great first visit.
Doc has been nothing but attentive and responsive to any problems I have had and thorough to my annual visits---almost more than my wife-- best Doc I have had in years --- and I am almost 60
Excellent physician!
I was a patient of Dr Richard Shimizu for seven years, and I have decided to leave him and I have found a new doctor. Over the seven years, I found Dr Shimizu was cold, uncaring, and a poor listener. What really got me to change doctors (and it is not an easy task to find a new one in Springfield) is what happened when I asked him a question. I have several chronic conditions that are all related, and I asked if they could be treated more holistically, as this just makes obvious sense to me. His response was, to paraphrase as closely as I can remember, “We don’t have time to deal with patients this way. Just tell me your symptom and then I will write a prescription.” This response told me that Dr Shimizu doesn’t care about my me as a patient, and that his only goal is to get me out of the office as soon as possible so that he can see another patient as fast as he can, boosting his income. I also get the impression that he isn’t really interested in medicine as a fulfilling career and is just working to make an income. I can’t recommend him.

Dr. Shiimizu is very thorough and is well prepared for our appointments. I am confident in his abilities. When our previous Dr. retired, he told us he was recommended Dr. Shimizu for us and we have felt Dr. Shimizu is very knowledgeable. I would have no problem recommending D. Shimizu.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
