Dr Akins is very through and has a fantastic bedside manor. My experience has been wonderful
As good as it gets with a Physician who truly cares about his patient. Brilliant mind with excellent people skills. Great bedside skills..Highly recommend
A few things I like about Dr. Akins and believe me doctors aren't my favorite people. But 1) Dr. Akins was on time 2) straight forward and pulls no punches - I like that 3) Explained where I'm at now and what I need to do to at the least maintain - along with a few other suggestions to help me. If you want someone to sugar coat things he isn't your doctor -
Had a terrible experience with Dr Akins and his office. My husband was seen by him once and we were given some incorrect/vague information, so asked for a second opinion/to be seen by another physician in the practice. He then fired us as a patient and now the other physicians in the nephrology practice in his group refuse to see my husband.
Dr Akins did not adequately answer our questions, gave us incorrect information (contradicted the dietitian and well-known research), refused to refer us to a renal RD (he stated "I can print whatever handouts you want, you do not need to see a dietitian", we had to call and insist), then when we asked for a second opinion (he had to release my husband to be seen by someone else in the practice), he called me (wife) and demanded to know why we "didn't trust him" and asked me to call the PCP office and have a note DELETED from the chart! He then fired my husband as a patient and the entire nephrology practice at COX refuses to see him now. We are currently working with the patient experience office, so I was hesitant to write a review, because I was hoping he or his office would resolve this with us. However, it has now been 3 months and we have yet to resolve this. We have never been treated like this by a physician before.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
