Dr. Pestronk is one of the foremost diagnostic neurologists in the US. If you or a family member have a neurological/muscular condition that no one else has been able to diagnose, you go to Dr. Pestronk. His bedside manner can be a bit clinical and cold, particularly during muscle testing, but once he's finished he will be able to provide your family with a plan and some answers that you've been desperately searching for. You will also be examed by a resident in neurology. Since Dr. Pestronk sees so many rare cases, this is critical training for the next generation of neurologists because they have the chance to observe conditions that they may only see 1 or 2 times in their practice. Dr. Pestronk has had a lengthy career diagnosing conditions that have long had neither a treatment or a cure. After years of interactions with him, I think that his bedside manner is a protection mechanism. It has to be incredibly difficult to give families life-altering, dream-crushing diagnoses while having no treatment options, let alone cures, for these terrible neurological/neuromuscular diseases. Many, many of his patients have died and will continue to die from these conditions for the foreseeable future. Few physicians have been as dedicated to their work and their patients. Physician burnout is high when physicians have little to help their patients, so it's truly remarkable that he's stuck though for nearly 50 years! Dr. Pestronk's work has truly been a gift of love to our society. He has greatly advanced our understanding of rare diseases in neurology, provided answers to desperate families, and trained the next generation of neurologists. Please look beyond his bedside manner and recognize his work for the act of love he's providing to your family.

I feel the great life I have now is a direct result from Dr. Pestronk and the fine staff of Doctors that he mentors. They have changed my life.
Crabby. Doesn't make you feel comfortable.
He stated he wanted to see me in 6 weeks to develop a treatment plan after changing my diagnosis. His nurse gave me the first available appointment in 8 months. This scheduled appointment was cancelled in the seventh month giving me an appointment in six additional months, 13 months. They called in four months cancelling that appointment and offered an appointment in 6 months. It has been over three years since he changed my diagnosis and "We" were to discuss a treatment plan. I have continued to decline and reluctantly called to try to get an appointment. He refused to see me since it has been more than three years. His nurse said he needed a physician referral though my insurance plan does not require one. I had enough, his care is best described as irresponsible neglect.
After being undiagnosed and then misdiagnosed by Neurologists at large medical facilities in two other states for over 30 years, I found myself living in the St. Louis area and decided to try one more time - and made an appointment at Wash U. Neurology. Dr. Pestronk and his staff were able to finally tell me what my problem is, and to provide treatment which has made a world of difference in my life. No, the diagnosis was not quick, it took a couple of years of them carefully watching changes in my body, but I am forever thankful to them. They are brilliant.
Treated like a lab rat. No compassion, no personal connection. No follow up. Residents are horrible-no bed side manner.
Treated like a lab rat. No compassion. Residents are terrible
Dr pestrok totally misdiagnosed my wife.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
