List of Chien-Huan Chen's Reviews
Spends very little time with you. Forgets what he's ordered and the treatments he has suggested.
Very bad experience after experience. I waited several years to write this review. Long story short, my husband had severe gastro/abdominal/duodenum pain amongst numerous other symptoms (dizzy, chills, vago-vasal response, etc.) and this DR kept pushing biologics when it turns out he never had Crohn's to begin with. After 2 biologics didn't work at all (just made symptoms worse) he kept telling him in was in his head then tried to push SSRIs - nope. He had an endoscopy which showed redness and mild inflammation and we were told he must have had an ulcer but its heeling now. This should have been further researched and looked into. It wasn't. He also kept telling us diet didn't matter which blows my mind! SCD cured 90% my husbands symptoms for years. We finally switched Gastros and had 2 new doctors look at his endoscopy from a few years ago. They both suggested a hida scan - which we recently did - and found out his bladder is producing too much bile. This could have been caught years ago! I recently learned about a breath test that checks for SIBO - how was this never suggested?! Bottom line, do your own research, never stop searching and get 2nd and 3rd opinions if needed. Many things were overlooked and we were continually told "its in your head." Very disappointing.

Very knowledgeable and caring. Definitely would recommend
He is very thorough, takes time to explain what is going on. Nurse follows up with me after visits. Office staff friendly and helpful.
I love Dr. Chen, He saved my husband's life. We were referred to him from Springfield Cox. My husband has Chrone's disease which flared up after years of remission His weight (170 to 116) On our first appointment, Dr. Chen immediately set him up for a colonoscopy. He admitted him, surgically implanted a feeding device to get nutrition going into him, and set us up with a local company that would deliver the nutrition bags weekly. Once he regained enough strength, he was scheduled for surgery. Dr. Chen and his team in the hospital were incredible. Dr. Hunt the surgeon was super top notch. If we had not been fortunate enough to get that referral, I absolutely know my husband would not be alive today.
Dr Chen and his entire staff are the best! I really love that I can talk to him and feel comfortable with really sensitive subjects. He takes the time to answer any questions I might have before a procedure and I really love him for that! He’s so great!
Dr. Chen is considered a very good clinician and came highly recommended. Unfortunately my personal experience left much to be desired. Dr. Chen acted unprofessionally by speaking poorly about my previous doctor - a former Wash U doctor who has since relocated. It was difficult to tell if Chen was more interested in proving that doctor wrong or in establishing a proper diagnosis for me. Additionally, I felt very judged for being knowledgeable about my health. Over all, a very disappointing interaction. I do not recommend Dr. Chen unless a good doctor/patient relationship is of no concern to you.
I would not recommend Dr. Chen. He is unprofessional and spoke poorly of other doctors. I felt harshly judged by him. Chen refused to answer a few of my questions and referred to them as a “debate” when I merely wanted a better understanding. Is staff also spoke poorly of other doctors. I found the entire episode to be unprofessional and stress inducing.
I needed a colonoscopy as part of my physical. Based on my experience with the preparation process, I wanted to find a physician's group that permitted the use of Miralax-based prep due to the unpleasant taste of other preps. I found the gastroenterology group at BJC West County Hospital through an on-line search. Throughout the process, from prep to post-procedure, Dr. Chen and his team were caring and attentive.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
