Colleen A Mcevoy's Online Review Report Card

I saw her once when I got lung problems due to Long Covid. She seemed knowledgeable and gave me a prescription that helped. We scheduled a follow-up appointment in six months. A few months later my condition took a serious turn for the worse and I tried to make an appointment with her. I was told that it was not possible to get an appointment with her before the previously scheduled one, which was still months away. The nurse said to go the emergency room if I felt too bad. What is the point of having a doctor who can’t fit you in when you are sick and who doesn’t seem to have arrangements for another doctor to cover in such cases? I know there are many people now who have lung problems due to Covid, but this is not right.

I read the negative reviews for Dr. McEvoy but chose to ignore them because I was referred to her after being diagnosed with a rare lung disease and because some people find fault with everyone. However, in this case the negatives are justified. I found Dr. McEvoy to be arrogant, dismissive and incompetent. It was nearly impossible to make contact with anyone from her office outside of scheduled appointments. Phone calls were not returned and they cancelled appointments without informing me until I arrived for the appointments. McEvoy blamed her nurse, said she makes a lot of mistakes. She twice failed to order the correct blood test to accurately diagnose the cause of my disease and did not follow through on reaching out to a research hospital that may be able to help. After contacting the hospital myself I was quickly and accurately diagnosed and they told me she had been ordering the wrong tests and incorrectly diagnosed the cause/type. If you need an expert look elsewhere.

Dr. McEvoy is a thorough doctor who knows procedures and facts really well and thats why she got one star. There were many times when I felt like she was signing me up for too many unneeded scans and invasive procedures that wouldn't benefit me at all. I began to wonder if it was for her own research. I felt like her guinea pig. She does things by the book but when it comes to empathy, compassion, and understanding, she is not up to par. Maybe its because she is young but she doesnt seem to care or understand that sometimes patients want quality of life, versus just quantity. When I was against taking a drug that caused side effects that made my life miserable, she just couldnt understand or accept it. It was her way or no way. She made me feel like I no longer mattered if I did not do what she wanted me to do. If she wants to be a good doctor someday, she will have to start considering how her patients' quality of life is affected and become more sensitive to personal choices her patients might make. She has to learn to work with a patient, not just talk at him or her. I would get so anxious seeing her because I felt like she wouldnt help me if I did not do exactly what she told me to do. Also, its nearly impossible to get a hold of her when you call. Leaving several messages about a serious issue or concern without getting a call back is very common. After a couple of years I refused to ever see her again. There are too many compassionate, understanding, and smart doctors out there. No point in wasting time with someone who is cold and makes you feel like you dont matter.

When calling her, its nearly impossible to get a hold of her or her nurse and I've called about issues that are serious enough that I could have been dead by the time someone responded. Its also her way or the highway. Im a medically complex patient who cares a lot about my quality of life, but McEvoy made me feel like she couldn't care less. She wanted me to do what she wanted me to do, regardless of the fact that her orders would mean that my life would no longer have any quality to it. After couple of years, I refused to see her again.

Please avoid this doctor if you expect immediate or timely responses to urgent situations. You can only leave message and they will respond in 2-3 days. Some patients could be dead in that time without a doctor. Please choose more carefully than my family did.

The doctor may be overloaded with patients. You can cannot call to speak to her or anyone in the office. You have to leave a message and they will call you back in 2-3 days. Depending on your condition this may not be a good doctor if you want/need quick attention and care. If your condition can wait days before you speak to anyone in your doctor's office then this doctor will work for you. Good personality/nice person. My only concern is patients could literally die before getting called back.
