List of Dr. Courtney Shands Iii's Reviews
Best doctor I’ve ever visited by far. Procedure was quick and painless. Dr. Shands is funny and keeps things lighthearted. I’d recommend him to anyone.
Exceptional! Dr. Shands has been my urologist for over 20 years. He is an outstanding physician with exceptional skill and knowledge. He’s also extremely personable and consistently prompt. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of urological care.
Complications from Vasectomy I had a vasectomy in February 2025 done by Dr. Courtney Shands. There was no nurse to help with preparation prior to surgery; it was just him and me in the little room which I think is odd considering it is a surgery to a valuable body part. Three days after procedure I had terrible pain and a hematoma on left side of scrotum. I had to call off work for a few days. I still have swelling on occasion. I think more dialogue before vasectomy would have been helpful and I am convinced an Open Ended Vasectomy would have been best for me but he never mentioned that method. He stuck with something he has probably been doing for decades (a Close Ended Vasectomy). Do research beforehand guys. This should not be advertised as a quick and painless three day recovery. I once was an active runner and biker but that is being put on hold due to this pain since February. I regret getting this done at his clinic. I found out a Doctor in South County does Open Ended so I'll share this here.
Doctor is a very professional and friendly!!! Everything was perfect!!! For many years I visited Dr Shands and I think he is a wonderful doctor!!!Staff is very polite and helpful and professional
My son in law went to Dr.courtney shands Friday January 24th for a vasectomy Thursday January 30th he had to go back because he was very swollen the Dr. Didn't give him the time to day my son in law was in his office less than 15 minutes the dr. Said he had a hematoma and it will resolve itself and prescribed him oxy, later that night he got worse went to th er they admitted him he has a very serious infection the er doctor said if he would have waited another day the infection would have spread to his organs. If Dr. Shands would have did his job and spent a little more time with his patient and prescribed him a antibiotics and not opiods he would not be in the hospital.
Dr. Shands always takes the time to discuss my condition with me and makes me feel at ease.
Excellent Physician I have been a patient of Dr. Shands for many years, since working at Jewish Hospital. He is the epitome of professionalism, who communicates clearly and always encourages questions to clarify any procedures or next steps.Recommend him highly!

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
