James Hoekel's Online Review Report Card

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Hoekel for over 10 years. He is such a pleasure to have on her medical team. He is caring, well educated and funny. He always makes her laugh, and always asks how we are doing. I highly recommend him to anyone who is searching for a Dr. they can trust and has your care as their top priority.

I did not have a good experience taking my son to Dr. Hoekel. When he walked in the room he did not say hi or anything, went straight to his computer. During the exam he was obviously bothered when my 18 MONTH OLD son was screaming and upset over someone unfamiliar being in his face. He seemed aggravated the entire appointment and rushed us through the whole thing. When I asked where to get toddler glasses for my son he said I could go anywhere and did not help/recommend any places for me to go. I then spent the rest of my day calling around trying to find a place that carried toddler glasses. In my opinion he should not be working with children at all.

Dr. Hoekel was amazing in the care of my daughter. He walked into the room and immediately said to my daughter "Hello Beautiful how are you doing today" This made my daughter's face light up. He was very friendly and happy throughout the entire visit and made her feel comfortable. He also involved me in her eye test, answered any questions or concerns I had and made clear what the plan going forward would be along with our options.

Both of my children were born with a very rare birth defect. My son being the first, he was misdiagnosed by a local ophthalmologist and referred on the Children’s where we first met Dr Hoekel. He is amazing!! From day one he has put my mind at easy when it comes to my children and their condition. Also willing to help with whatever it maybe. He always keeps me in the loop as to what is going on, what may need to happen and what the end results will be. He treats us as if we are part of his family and I’m forever indebted to him and the other doctors at Children’s Eye Center for helping my babies!

Dr. Hoekel is an amazing doctor. My daughter has been a patient of his since she was under 1 month old. She is now almost 9. I would recommend him unequivocally. He takes the time to talk to you in manner you can understand but not talking down to you. He makes sure to take the time to answer all of your questions honestly and with no BS. He takes the time to make sure your child understands what he is doing and what he is going to do. He takes the time to make sure that he is very thorough in his examinations. All while he is being very gentle in the manner he does the exam. He also charts extremely well or has a great memory because he remember details about his patients that make them feel like they are just a random patient but someone he cares about. The fact he takes the time to these things is what sets him apart from other doctors. On top of everything Dr.Hoekel is very intelligent.

Dr H is amazing ! We have been taking our daughter there for many years and he has worked diligently along side us to help correct her vision problems. As parents we appreciate working as a team vs being told one way is the only way. He is so carrying and takes personal time to explain anything that you may not understand. We are so thankful to have found him.

Dr. Hoekel is very informative, great with the kids, the staff, and had great bedside manor. He was very quick to return calls, answer questions. He took the time to make sure we fully understood the procedure and possible complications. Very happy experience. Would recommend him to anyone!
