List of John C. Clohisy's Reviews
I should have been worried after the initial office visit felt like an assembly line. My post operative care was non existent. The office refused my request for outpatient therapy 4 times. The only follow up was 8 weeks after surgery and it was only telemedicine. How can you assess gait like that. At 7 weeks when the nite pain persisted I was told just live with it for 3 months. Dr clohisy might be a surgical guru/ god but he and his office need to listen to the patient and follow up better. My dog had better follow up after TPLO surgery than I experienced with this office. Run the other way! BTW I was in medicine for 45 years so I’m not talking only as a disgruntled patient.
Dr Clohisy did my hip replacement. Home the same day with minimal pain. Great process that insured a successful outcome.
Dr. Clohisy does not have the best bedside manner. Discussed my images in the third person objectively with the fellow and was clearly irritated by my concerns, questions, and patient feedback when insulted. Told me to "check out Weight Watchers" or the wellness center even though I made it known I traveled out of state for the appointment. Writhed in his seat, put his palms against his head, snapped, "Get some real help!" re: weight loss pre-surgical intervention. Neither he nor his staff offered specific research or images to look at and said colleagues would give me the same prognosis. Did not spend much time with me, was not respectful or sensitive. I cried in my car for 20 minutes. Worst experience I ever had with a medical professional. Reported it to the hospital. He may be an incredible surgeon, but he has terrible interpersonal skills.
Dr. John Clohisy is the BEST hip surgeon in the Midwest and certainly one of the best in the nation. My surgery took an hour and went home the same day. I used the walker for 6 days, drove in 6 days, got rid of my elevated commode in 6 days & I went back to work in 2 weeks! His support staff is phenomenal starting with Nurse Madelyn Curry who was thorough and empathetic to your needs. However, you as a patient, should do our part with the P.T.
Superb physician I am physician As well Really good local orthopedist sent me to chlohisy for complicated hip case Results and care, staff etc were excellent I would recommend without hesitation
I have been battling a hip problem for nearly five years and had been with other surgeons who had completely made things worse. As soon as I found Dr, Clohisy he sent me straight to Detroit to get a specific ultrasound to get a final diagnosis. Once I did, he operated shortly after and I have never felt better. He repaired and redid everything the other surgeons messed up and always made sure I was comfortable. I had my plates and screws removed yesterday, and I already feel my best. He is an excellent surgeon, and an excellent doctor. He was also local for me which made things a million times easier.
I researched for the best Doctor in the country for the hip surgery I was needing. I live in Florida and flew to MO. He is the best doctor for this procedure in the USA and I am VERY happy with my surgery results. He has great beside manners and I knew upon my first consult he was the doctor for me. Answered all my questions. Addressed my concerns and did a perfect job.
3 days after my total hip replacement (right side) and all I can say is wow! Days 1 & 2 were a little touch & go, but here at day three I can easily get around with a walker and am having no pain and taking no pain meds. Dr. Clohisy uses the anterior approach and does it very well, and uses the current state of the art ceramic on cross-linked polyethylene hips. I was told people come from all over the country to see him, and I can see why. Well worth the wait time to get to see him. When it comes time for my left hip I will be seeing him again.
Exceptional surgeon and supporting staff. All the pain I had prior to hip replacement is gone and I had very little post-operative pain. Madelyn Curry is a professional Nurse Coordinator that answers all questions and returns all phone calls with solid answers. The nursing staff at Barnes Jewish are second to none and care very much about their patients. I would not hesitate to recommend this gifted team of professionals. If I need these types of services again, I know where to go to get exceptional care! Thank You All!
My experience with Dr. Clohisy was wonderful. He fixed me!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
