List of Steven M Couch's Reviews
Dr Couch is the highest recommended Ophthalmology Specialist in the Midwest. I am beyond grateful for his medical specialty and the willingness to tackle patients with my condition Graves Disease/Thyroid Eye Disease. Dr. Couch always answered my questions, (there were so many) addressed my concerns, and provided a clear understanding of the treatment options. I went from being horrified to hopeful to healing. He consistently brought forth any new researched treatments for discussion. My sight has significantly improved and my eyes no longer resemble ET. ( The movie) I am so thankful. His staff is equally professional, kind and will assist you in any way possible. They will call you back as promised, and promptly as well.
I had to have upper eye lid surgery because my vision was impaired by my drooping eyelids. I was referred to Dr Couch by a plastic surgeon. I did my procedure in the office with sedation to avoid being put to sleep unnecessarily. I was nervous but it went very smoothly. He uses a special device when performing surgery and he reports it helps reduce pain during recovery. I had very little discomfort after the surgery. No throbbing! I used no pain meds, only Over the counter pain med. I was amazed that I did not have pain. Dr Couch has a great bedside manner, very personable and thorough. Office staff is wonderful as well.
If you're looking for the pinnacle of bearded surgeons, look no further than Doctor Steven Couch. Glorious in his skill, matched only by the splendor of his beard. The removal of my painful eye was something I anticipated, though it saddened me that I would only have one eye with to espry the breath taking beauty of the beard of Dr Couch, hiding behind his mask. When his awe-inspiring visage appeared to me post eye removal, I felt as if the face of some holy savior must be upon me due to the magnificence of the beard grown upon his face, neatly groomed & well taken care of. Each time I have see Dr Couch and his prodigious beard, I am able to take comfort in his knowledge and ability to care for the needs of the area that was once my eye. And I look forward to my next appointment when I may once again bask in the breath taking glory that is this surgeon & his beard.
I was referred to Dr. Couch by my optometrist to have a small lesion removed from my eyelid. I have no complaints with his performance. However the bill is obscene. $350 for the office visit, he spent about 2 minutes deciding what should be done. We went down the hall where it took him about 10 minutes to do the work. $900 for that. $1250 for a total of 15 minutes of work. I'm told the charge is normal and ordinary and I should just shut up and pay it. This is highway robbery, how do these people sleep at night? Beware of what you'll be charged here and make sure you can't get what you need somewhere else.
Visit with Dr. Couch in September, 2021. I explained to Dr. Couch that I was diagnosed with and being treated for an auto-immune disease which I believe directly affected my right eye complaint. His response to me was "I don't think this has anything to do with your auto-immune disease; I think it's just you." REALLY???? I did my own research and made an appt with Uveitis specialist Dr. Lynn Hassman, Wash-U. She confirmed my suspicion and diagnosed me with Uveitis and is currently treating me for it. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with Dr. Couch. He made me feel like I was less than a person instead of taking the TIME to LISTEN to me and take into account that I have an auto-immune disease.
This man i the best doctor in the St. Louis area for eyes. If you have an injury he will be completely transparent. 10/10 would recommend
After receiving 2 previous different types of surgery on my eyes I developed droopy eye lids. I did not want to have plastic surgery, so my research took me to Dr Steven Couch. He took time to hear what my problem was dealing with this. He then explained what he could do to fix the issue with my eye's, what the surgery entailed and what to expect. I was personally assured by his confidence, and the results of the surgery he performed was far more than I could have hoped for. His staff was friendly and easy to work with. I would highly recommend Dr Steven Couch.
Dr. Couch is such an amazing doctor. My experience was exceptional. He spent lots of time with me and reviewed all the risks and benefits of the surgery I was considering. What really made me write this review was his high level of care prior, during, and following the surgery. He made me feel like family, and he sincerely cares for all his patients this way according to his surgery staff. I would hands down recommend him for his outstanding surgical skills, personable bedside manner, and his genuine care for his patients. 10/10.
I would recommend Dr. Couch without any reservation. He and his staff were warm, caring and professional. Two things stand out. First, I had questions about insurance coverage and avoiding surprise billings following surgery. Dr Couch and his staff answered all of my questions willingly and completely. They seemed genuinely interested in being sure I had all of my questions answered. Second, the results were fantastic. I had eyelid surgery. It was quick, efficient and painless. The recovery was as described and the follow-up was thorough. It made a significant difference in my quality of life.
Worst experience with a physician in my life. Got angry and VERY confrontational when I asked questions. Couldn’t or wouldn’t provide explanations - just refused. I’m fine with a doctor saying they don’t understand something. Ego shouldn’t get in the way of treating patients.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
