Dr. Abentroth was my first in-person appointment after my St. Peter primary care doc told me I had breast cancer over the phone. Without having my full pathology results, Dr. Abentroth told me, based on her years of experience, I would be triple negative and have an aggressive cancer (this was later proven inaccurate). I was unable to see an oncologist before & without knowing my treatment plan, Dr. Abentroth wanted to schedule me for surgery. I was 16 hours into my diagnosis & she asked me whether I wanted a mastectomy or lumpectomy. She provided no education on the pros/cons of each option. When I expressed concern about receiving cancer care at St Peter’s due to my friend’s misdiagnosis and passing she responded, “That problem is done; Dr. Wiener has been fired.” The lack of empathy or professionalism was alarming. The Bozeman Health surgeon I will work with coordinated with my oncology team, provided education, showed compassion, and earned my trust and respect.

Dr Abentroth was rushed, cancelled appointments, minimized my concerns. I had breast cancer, it was concerning.
